I wash them again without telling him. He makes a great deal of effort to help out around the house, I'm just grateful regardless if its done to my expectations.

Same - if its a one-off, I'll just do it myself. But if the whole sink full of dishes is still greasy, or if it became a pattern, I might say something.

I would try to just deal with it for a while (unless they were just really dirty and unsanitary).

If it becomes a stewing annoyance to me, I tell him. Otherwise, I try to pick my battles. Usually, it's not a big deal, so not worth the fight.

Meh, we're human...sometimes my dishwasher does a crap job washing dishes, so I just pretend like they're perfect.

Yeah I pick my battles. I will say something probably 50% of the time or he gets annoyed. Also I buy lots of scrub brushes and wands (which my husband prefers to sponges) to help him along with pre-scrubbing. I've also asked him to pre-soak caked on dishes/bowls in the sink before washing (dried oatmeal in a bowl, for example) by telling him it will make pre-scrubbing easier for him (and gets the bowls clean!)

If I'm unloading and find some dirties, I just leave them in there for the next load or soak them in the sink. If I see him unloading and there are obvious dirties going into the cabinet (or I find dirties later), I'll stop him and say "Hey, if you see that something's still dirty, do you mind leaving it in the washer to run again or soak them?" Or occasionally I'll say something like "Hey do you think our dishwasher is working okay? Some of the dishes have been coming out dirty, so I'm not sure if we need to change the soap or something."

I'm in the same boat - I HATE doing dishes, so if I care that much, I should do them myself.

@bluestriped bee: it depends on how they are still dirty!

This happened today with LO's bottles. I tell him they're dirty still, then if he's got time I'll indicate that he should do them again, but if not I'll just do them myself.

@bluestriped bee: my solution is to not buy anything that can't be put into the dishwasher! Doing dishes is my arch nemesis.

I would point it out to my husband but not make a big deal out of it. If I had done some vacuuming but missed an obviou spot, I'd appreciate someone letting me know.

As the person who is the problem (my parents shoved everything into the dishwasher and I didn't really know people pre-cleaned dishes or even handwashed some dishes completely), I can attest that I get really sensitive when I feel like my husband goes behind my work. He now does @swurlygurl 's approach and acknowledges that at least I'm trying. If I was doing it to spite him or doing a crappy job on purpose, though, I would expect him to call me out. We're an equal work household and that includes the dishes. I just sometimes don't do things to his standards.

I hate it when DH washes dishes and splashes water everywhere. I go after him to clean up the area.... So usually yes I just make sure I'm doing the dishes haha.

Lol this made me laugh because I have the same problem and sometimes I say something, sometimes I rewash them, and then there's times I'm like bump it

If it's just a few thing, I don't say anything and just re-wash it - there have been plenty of times I've been careless and haven't washed something as thoroughly as I should have.

If it's a whole batch that's greasy or dirty, though, I'll probably bring it up just in case it's an issue w/our soap or something.

I just wash them again. I had to change my attitude about that too because I used to nag. I never understood why he doesn't wash the underside of the dish or lids to pots.

He barely ever does the dishes but if he does and I have to rewash something I try not to let it bug me. I figure it's fewer than I would have had to wash! My husband thinks every pot is a 'soaker' lol. That does kinda annoy me! I always say it just needs a little elbow grease! Haha

If it was just one time, I wouldn't say anything. If it happened frequently, I would probably point it out.

If it is just an occasional dish I just re-wash it. If it is happening a lot, I mention it so that he can adjust his behavior (he does the same for me). Luckily, our new place has a dishwasher so this happens far less often for both of us!

He has never ever washed the dishes so he would get a crap ton of praise, even if they weren't clean! lol
