At around what age did your LO start having just one nap? And around what time in the day (or how many hours after waking) did it occur?

@artbee: I'm noticing that LO's wakeful period in the morning is getting longer and that her first nap is also getting longer, while nap#2 seems to be getting shorter.

@Rubies: My LO still has two hours of being awake between naps and then she's done! Maybe this means that you'll just slowly get rid of nap #2? Not looking forward to that day... LO is taking her second nap now and I'm loving it!

Depends. Lo has 2 naps some days. Other days she has one. Niece is 16 mos old and still gets 2

My LO went from two naps to one at around 18 months. He was fighting his first nap and it would be really short (like 40 minutes) so we decided to switch to one nap and he slept 2 hours straight.

we pushed charlie to one nap at 15 1/2 months. he was able to stay awake longer and longer between naps, and it was pushing his bedtime later. we also had to wake up him from both naps, otherwise he'd nap too long.
once he was on one nap, he was able to sleep more overall actually (3 - 3 1/2 hours instead of 2, 1 hour naps).
it took a couple of weeks to sort out and often we had to put him down earlier than our goal nap time of 1pm. we just had to do something super active in the mornings to keep him awake. if we stayed home, he'd get cranky because he was tired. but if we were out doing something fun, he was too busy to realize he was tired.
the transition from 2 to 1 naps was really hard because that morning break went away. it took us a while to get used to it! but then it becomes great because you have all morning to do something fun. but i still kinda miss that morning nap... it's a great break!

@Rubies: It depends, DD is 12 months & usually gets to naps but some days she will boycot & only get one. She does better with two naps, but I do keep the second nap shorter/make sure it doesn't go to late because otherwise she does have issues sleeping at night sometimes.

My oldest was about 18 months and my twins were 9 months. I should mention I have horrible mappers do I'm not a good example. We slowly changed the nap time. The boys would wake up at 6ish. Have breakfast at 7, snack at 9 then lunch was shifted to get them lasting a little longer. Some days we had lunch at 10:30 then they would go down for naps Eventually we got lunch to 11 or 11:30. Then they would nap at around noon. Before they were 2 the twins stopped napping all together so my older son have them up too. I miss their naps.

We're going through the transition now at 16.5 months, but I am trying to keep him on 2 naps as we have a trip coming up and I really don't want to deal with that plus a time change.
I am looking forward to being able to actually do something in the mornings, right now it's hard to consistently plan anything because I never know when he's really going to be sleeping. He' also resists eating lunch, which makes it difficult for him to sleep in the afternoon, any ideas on that?

I read that on average, it occurs around 15-18 months... For us it was around 16 months. I didn't like it at first because it seemed like a lot less sleep, but I grew to appreciate it because it was a good chunk of time... 2.5-3 hours!
She's 4 now and naptime at preschool is still 1-3. She fights it sometimes, but not always.

Oh, okay, I see that I still have a bunch of time. Thanks, ladies!

LO was 18m and moved into the toddler room at daycare where they only offer 1 nap. However for several weeks, she still took 2 naps on weekends.

Wagon Jr. transitioned to one big nap around 17 months. I was dreading it and kind of forced him to take 2 naps (he'd go down for his morning nap with no problem, but I'd have to drive him around in the car for the second nap) because I was a SAHM and I didn't want to give up the chance to have 2 breaks during the day. But when he transitioned, his naps went from 2 1-1.5 hr naps to one big nap (sometimes up to 3 hours!) and I realized that's SO much better because you can actually get so much done instead of just little things done. You could actually eat, take a nap, get up, shower, do the dishes, and start laundry!
He's 2 years 5 months now and still takes the one big nap, but it's usually around 1-2 hours now.

When he started daycare at 11 months, he decided too much was going on that he would skip the first nap and sleep 2-3 hours in the afternoon.
Now he's 22 months and lately has been going back to 2 naps.
It really depends on how much sleep he gets through the night. Sometimes he goes to bed at 8:30 but is up at 6 am. When that happens, he takes a 1hr-2hr nap late morning, and a later one in the afternoon.
It really depends on the baby/toddler i think.

DD started transitioning to one nap at about 16 months; she still sometimes asks for a morning nap right now (at 23 months) but only once every few weeks. Her afternoon nap is at 1, or about 6-7 hours after waking up in the morning; she sleeps anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on how tired she is.

DS, at 13 months, takes one 2-hour nap at daycare during the week and two 2-hour naps on the weekends or days off.
I am so frustrated with daycare for not giving DS 2 naps. He needs the sleep, but she says he won't sleep. He's at an in-home daycare. I've offered to bring his sound machine there, but she is adamant that he won't take 2 naps, so she doesn't try anymore.
Mondays are awful for us, since he's so tired after daycare. Last night he went to bed an hour and a half early without a fuss and slept almost 12 hours!
Anyway, In a few weeks DH will be home for the summer and I hope to keep DS on 2 naps a day until he returns to daycare in the fall (at 17 months old).

LO went to one nap @ 14 mos. She usually takes hers about 5 hours after she wakes up and they last about 1.5 hours. Wish they were longer....
