For DS1 we did it a month shy of two years because DH had surgery and it was too difficult to get him in his seat and buckled. I wish we had kept him rear facing longer.

With DS2 he will be rear facing as long as he can. In California the law is until at least 2 years old now.

We switched lo1 just before 2.5--we had just been traveling abroad and rented a car/carseat that was forward-facing, and we couldn't expect her to go back to rear-facing after. Now w lo2, we're using a convertible seat that's supposed to be good for extended rear-facing (clek foonf), so I hope to keep her rear-facing longer

We switched my older daughter the day we brought little sister home from the hospital, when she was almost 2.5. We couldn’t comfortably fit two rear facing seats in the car and she was old and big enough by then.

My younger one is 2 now and still RF. Not sure when we will switch- but she is the only 2 year old I know still RF.

3y3m. He was in the carpool line at school and it was making it more difficult. He's now a serious backseat driver. People asked (mostly inquisitively not negatively) and I would just say that he's happy and it's 5 times safer. He didn't know any better and never asked to switch, even when he saw friends had flipped.

He asked to go back to rear facing a few days ago - he was jealous of LO2 and felt she had a "better view."

DD1 was forward facing in the convertible some time between 2-2.5. She has never been the happiest kid in the car, and when we had DD2 when she was 2, eventually it was easier to have her forward facing so we did it. Between 2.5-3 we moved her to a forward facing only seat.

B was 26 months, and we turned him because W was due and I couldn't have a rear facing seat behind the driver's seat - my legs are too long. W turns two tomorrow (OMG!) and I don't feel a need to turn him any time soon, since he's happy rear facing.

We switched at 3.5 on the dot. Honestly, DS never complained and we didn't find it difficult to get him in/out of the car, so we probably could have kept him longer but the teachers were starting to side-eye in the car line a little. Even when his friends commented on it at school he thought they were ridiculous ("so-and-so said I am backwards! isn't he silly??).

My tall toddler is 25 lbs, I want to keep him rear facing until 40 lbs, but he will likely hit the height requirement before then.

DS1 is still rear facing and he’ll be 3 in June. I plan on keeping him that way as long as possible (he’s on the small side for his age). He does face forward in his grandparents’ car but he only rides with them for short trips, maybe once or twice a month. I saw this inforgraphic on facebook the other day and thought it was great. My daughter just turned two and is RFing still. We're planning to RF as long as possible but she's really tall and big (98% height and weight) so I imagine she won't be RFing as long as some kids.

We plan to transition our daughter to FF when she's 2 3/4 when she becomes a big sister. The thinking is that we're moving her car seat behind the passenger and by FF the passenger will have more space to be comfortable. The new baby will RF behind the driver. And it'll be easier dealing with her getting in and out of the seat and buckling FF with a newborn to also deal with.

My son turns 3 on Monday and we are still RF. My guess is that I will leave him until baby 2 arrives in September, then turn him around since the seat will fit better FF on the side rather than the center. He will be 3.5.

I can’t decide on this. My 3yo is super tall and big but I know that’s not really the main concern. We have a clek fllo so nice high limits. And it’s quite comfortable still rear facing. But my husband just got a new car and installed hus car seat (not the fllo) forward facing. If I really ask him to switch it back, he will. My resolve is weakening on it though!

My MIL always comments on how uncomfortable he is 🙄. Basically the only time she watched him, she drove him (I didn’t know she was going to do this, obviously) using her Neighbor’s FF car seat. He had just turned 2. She kept commenting about how much he loved it. I asked him how he liked driving with Grandma later when we got home and my son literally said “not safe car seat”!

We just turned my little at 2.5 in our car. It had become impossible to squeeze her into the seat RF. She's still RF in our truck and we'll leave her until she reaches limits, she seems totally fine with RF still in one car

I have a stringbean long and skinny kid who is super tall at 3.5 years old. He still has quite a bit of room weight limit wise on his Chicco Nextfit for rear-facing. He also has a lot of room in terms of height, but he has his daddy's long torso, so I think he will outgrow the seat before he hits 49 inches in standing height.

I don't see us forward facing him this calendar year (so before he turns 4 years and 3 months old) and I think we could easily rear-face him until this time next year, so 4.5 years old.

I'm not like militant about turning him around, but DS2 has his own NextFit, so we don't have to worry about handing a seat down to anyone, they both rear face so DS1 doesn't know any different, and honestly I think he's more comfortable REAR-facing because the seat is more reclined that way. Once he forward faces, his legs will have to hang off the seat, he will have to be far more upright, and if we're on a long drive, its less comfortable for him to snooze.

The boys are in the minivan 95% of the time with captain's chairs and DS1 can climb in and out of his seat himself, so its not really an issue having to lift a big kid or contorting ourselves to buckle him in.

So, for now we have no reason to move him any time soon.

Still rear-facing at 3, I voted 4-4.5 which is my goal. She doesn’t know any different and I think the arrival of LO2 just makes it easier to keep her that way bc obs baby is rear-facing. She’s also tiny, 26 lbs and 34 inches tall so that helps.

The earliest we would do it is when LO2 moves out of the infant seat and needs a convertible (LO2 will be 1, he will be 3). They drive in 3 cars regularly so buying 3 more $160 car seats is a bit much for me to handle, when I could just "pass down" the 3 convertibles to LO2 and buy 3 FF seats (they're cheaper, I hear?).

But then again, car crashes are one of my biggest fears, and so spending $500 for peace of mind to buy 3 more seats.... probabaly worth it.

I changed DS1 around 3. He had no problem continuing to nap in his carseat, even though he had mostly otherwise dropped his nap by then. He did not complain beforehand, but it was much easier to interact with him afterwards; it was much easier to hear him, and he talked much more in the car. He also stopped removing his shoes in the car. I am hoping to keep DS2 rear facing until about 3, but he is very tall (currently 26 months).

Almost 3 years. DD weighed over 30 lbs.

Still RF at 3 years 1 month. I said I would flip her after winter (we live in a very snowy/icy area and commute 60-90 minutes daily). However, now that signs of Spring are showing, I'm not feeling ready. DD is 39" and 28lbs, so while she's tall, she's petite.

I don't know anyone else over 2 who is RF. I know a 2-1/2 year old who is in a booster and my BIL is itching to get my 3 yr old niece in a booster. I get major side eye from the inlaws and some other random people who are worried about her legs/comfortable. Whatever, MIL also wanted us to leave slack in the infant seat harness...
