@LindsayInNY: This is pretty much where I was a year ago I really hope you're not on the same path as me... The only thing I knew about at the time was my thyroid condition, but it was well managed.

@T.H.O.U.: I can't think straight anymore. It's been 9 cycles. The chemical was cycle #7. Part of me is just ignoring the one year rule because one year for me hasn't been 12 cycles. So I guess I've been telling myself we'll see after 12 cycles?

@Mrs.Someone: I don't know if thyroid issues are hereditary but I don't have any signs of there being one. I haven't gained weight, lost weight, been tired, etc. In some ways, I would prefer an answer versus this unknown.

@LindsayInNY: Would your husband be open to testing? An SA is not invasive at all (awkward, yes) compared to the testing you would undergo. Many women forget that more than 40% of fertility challenges are male factor. Not saying that is the case for you, but I think a male factor test should be a first step for anyone facing TTC challenges without a clear female issue (annovulation, PCOS, pain, etc.).

@septca: Oh, he'd be totally fine with doing it and whenever we hit the "next step" time, that'll probably be one of the first things we have done. I do think the long-term use of BC is playing a big role in things. My cycles have just been a mess. I'll think they're regulating and then something wacky will throw me off.

@LindsayInNY: I don't think it would hurt to just get CD3 blood work... Maybe start there?

@pui: What does CD3 bloodwork entail? Or what's it for?

@LindsayInNY: Looking back I wish I would have listened to my gut and went more for testing after the first 9-10 months of ttc and 4 periods and never getting PG, I was told over and over again your young its fine......well it ends up not being 100% fine and I wish I would have just done those minimal tests in the beginning.......I.E. SA, Cd3&21 B/w

@LindsayInNY: We have nothing that would cause us any real concern and we've been trying for 14 months now. The only concern was that when I came right off BC (which I waited until we were TTC, in hindsight of course I would have stopped earlier) I didn't ovulate for 3 months. I thought that was me just regulating since my next cycle was normal, but then the cycle after that was 3 months also. Insistent on getting pregnant naturally I gave it one more cycle to see what would happen. I had 3 natural cycles, and no BFP. I gave in to my OBs recommendation for Clomid, O'd CD18 first time, and this time around CD35. I'm in the TWW of cycle 8 now. All my bloodwork, HSG, U/S has come back normal. DH's SA is normal. Except for my naturally longer cycles of 42-47 days, I have no idea what's "wrong". Even with long cycles, with OPKs and noting CM, we've nailed the timing. I'm not even sure what we should try next.

I am now worried about if I should do RPL testing after 2 CP back to back...RE thinks I am fine, but id hate to do it all again only to have it happen again........

I also thought that long cycles weren't really a problem per se, just that it's harder to get timing right. Does anyone know if that is true? Is it harder to get pregnant if cycles are naturally extremely long?

@PurplePumps: Clomid is a great tool, but it can thin lining and make mucus hostile to sperm..........

@PurplePumps: I was told no as long as you can track your O days .........nothing diff from a 28 cycle and das 14 Oing and a 40 day cycle day 20 Oing..........I would think

@T.H.O.U.: any inkling as to what changed between LO #1 and TTC #2 that may have resulted in Secondary infertility?

@mrs. 64: hearing the word "infertility" for the first time for me was so, so hard. In a way, though, it eventually brought me a strange sense of relief, because the problem had a name that we could then deal with. The other thing that helped me was to think it's not "fertile vs infertile" but rather dealing with various degrees of infertility, each of which come with a range of options. Still not great, but better.

@FaithFertility: I don't think it is a bad idea to push for testing, even just some blood work. 2 losses is 2 losses, and you shouldn't have to wait for a potential third to start investigating a problem. I'm so sorry, lady

@LindsayInNY: I don't know, I feel like a year is a year, no matter how many cycles you've had. I'm sorry that you hit the one year mark When you were last at your OB, did she say that she would be open to testing? Or were you considering trying to find an RE?

    Love to all

@FaithFertility: I know, that's one of the reasons why I was really hesitant, but my OB kept pushing it cause she kept saying I needed it, and that I needed to do 3 cycles of it before I could go see a RE. I'm ditching her and making an appt to see someone else before I continue with it.

@T.H.O.U.: Aww, I'm sorry you had to join us. I saw you posting on the IF thread and I was wondering if you felt like you officially had secondary IF. I know you started the 6 month plus thread and have been thinking about you lately.

I had a feeling after cycle 2 of ttc that it wasn't going to be easy. We had sex literally every day for 2 weeks, week before O and after. We kept at it and after 7 months, I talked to my ob and I started charting and during months 8-9 started some testing. With unexplained infertility but a suspected weak ovulation, we sought an RE at month 11 and did clomid and iui that cycle. That failed and for month 12, we decided to take a last minute trip to Paris and skipping the IUI but still took clomid. We got pregnant in Paris!

@PurplePumps: Are they willing to monitor you on those 3 cycles? My OBGYN have me 3 months of clomid too, which I took, but I was not monitored, when I finally saw my RE he shook his head because with clomid you might ovulate, but have lining issues or low estrogen/progestrone issues. ......ask if they will do b/w and ultrasound

@FaithFertility: Thing is, my gut really isn't telling me much other than 'why is this taking so long'. I don't have any feeling that there's something undiagnosed or anything...

@PurplePumps: You are essentially describing me/us. I wanted to go off BC a couple months before actively TTC but that didn't happen. I was worried about how I would react not being on it since I had been on it for that long. We were going on vacation over Thanksgiving and I didn't want to deal with possibly having AF then or anything. So we came back, I finished my BC and that was it. I literally stopped BC almost one year ago today. I didn't use OPKs my first cycle off BC and it ended up being 40ish days long. I started OPKs with my second cycle off BC and TTC. I Oed late and had a 60ish day cycle. Since then they seemed to average out around 31-32 days which is what I remember them being pre-BC and all through my teens. You are literally my cycle twin - longer cycles, confirmed O with OPKs/CM, etc. I've been temping, frequent BD around O, PreSeed... I'm fearful that testing won't reveal anything. But, at this point, it can't hurt to try.

@locavore_mama: I keep telling myself that the chemical is actually a really good sign. It means we CAN get pregnant which is half the battle sometimes. My first two cycles weren't timed with BD at all so really we've had a good run with 6 or 7 out of 9 cycles, one of which includes the chemical. That's really what's preventing me from wanting to have testing done.

@LovelyPlum: I saw her early September. She gave me a couple options - progesterone RX, a Pregnitude supplement, acupuncture, and massage. I've only gone with the progesterone though. I don't really have the time/money to be spending on acupuncture and massage and DH doesn't really buy that it'll help. The only one I would seriously consider is acupuncture anyways.

@LindsayInNY: I'd say follow your gut and heart, you havevperiods and know your ovulating, which I did not I had about 4 periods in a 9-10 month span so I was worried......remember my dream you had a BFP on here :))) Hope it happens soon!

  25. FaithFertility

    eggplant / 11861 posts

@LindsayInNY: Yes, the Chemical is a good sign you have a clue that it may not be sperm meets egg, is say give your self a limit and gonfrom there, if you feel 12 cycles would be your end before an RE do that.....everyone os different amd of course no matter what we cal all go back and say should of could of would of...but that never helps anything....I wish I "would" have got off BC right when we got married....lol.but I can't think that way

I suspected before we even started trying since I was already diagnosed with PCOS for almost 8 years by then, and had 100+ day annovulatory cycles regularly.

Probably after 6 months or so of trying I visited my doctor about it since PCOS in general should be paid attention to for my own health even when not trying to get pregnant. But I'd say it was the one year mark that I felt "officially" that we'd have to say we "struggled with infertility"

But ended up getting pregnant without intervention that particular cycle after 19 months, so now I don't know if if I can even say that??

I know many people/doctors say 1 yr, but considering I've never been on birth control, and I have concerns I may not be ovulating, I will be seeing a doctor after 3 months just to confirm. For me, I don't want to spend a year trying if I'm not ovulating. I'd look into seeking medication for that if possible. I'm my own best advocate, and if a doctor tells me they won't test to make sure I'm ovulating until 12 months, I will have to find one that will do some tests to at least confirm I'm ovulating. I won't consider myself infertile after 3 months, but I will want some answers!

It's too early for me to think I am dealing with infertility (cycle 5) but I have a gut feeling now that it isn't going to be easy, pretty great timing and nothing yet. I decided to go to my doctor last cycle because I have very light periods every month. Just doing blood work at the moment. I don't know if they will find anything but the way I see it is that this testing takes a long time, I would rather go through it now when in my mind I still feel hopeful of conceiving naturally every month rather than after a whole year and loosing hope.
