By the end of the week, many things fit again but it wasn't pretty.
By 3 weeks, I was in all my PP clothing but again, it wasn't too pretty.
I think I was totally back into them at about 6 w (for tops) and 8w (for pants) at the most.

Right away but it wasn't and still isn't pretty

I'm 6 weeks pp, and I can squeeze into a lot of my pre-pregnancy pants. I was back in most of my tops by 3 weeks. I bought one pair of larger pants at 4 weeks, but I'm wondering if that was a mistake since some of my smaller pants are fitting again.

I'm almost 3 months postpartum and absolutely none of my pre pregnancy tops fit, and only my "fat" jeans from early pregnancy fit now (well, they button -- but they don't look good). During my third trimester I had bought some loose t shirts, stretchy tank tops and knit/elastic waist bottoms all in larger sizes than I wore pre pregnancy and those fit by one or two weeks postpartum. I'm so glad I did that because it looks like its going to be a long journey back to pre pregnancy weight. Just last week I went out and bought a couple pairs of jeans & loose flowy tops at Target that fit my current body. That has done wonders for my self esteem.:)

I always feel like I have to comment in these threads to make people feel better. I'm 10 months out and most of my pre-preg pants still do not fit...I'm about 5 pounds over my previous weight. Most shirts never stopped fitting and fit right after except ones with buttons because my boobs were so much bigger. I'm always shocked by those of you that fit back right away!!!!
I'm probably only an inch or two away in the hips, but still!

I was able to fit them as soon as I was home, but preferred living in leggings and baggy tops.

5-6 months. 6 months is when I very intentionally lost all the baby weight. I have nooo idea when or if it would have come off itself without working hard at it!
I get very jealous when I see 1-2 week pp pics and mamas fit into their clothes and have no belly so quickly!
pomelo / 5258 posts
My belly surprised me and snapped back into shape within a couple weeks. However, my thighs decided to store some extra fat 'just in case' for breastfeeding. So even though I'm at or right around pre-pregnancy weight (and have worn a bikini without shame) I cannot wear any of my pre-pregnancy pants. That includes ones I wore 7 months pregnant and a couple days postpartum before my milk came in.
Sadly, most shirts are out too. I had no boobs prepregnancy so I had a lot of form fitting tops. LO is a one-sided eater so I now have one D boob and one A. The D doesn't fit anything I used to wear.
On the upside, I'm really ok with my body. I just hate shopping and wish it was easier to find clothes that fit.

I'm 7 weeks PP and still have to wear maternity jeans. My pre-preg pants don't fit at all.

9 wks here and it isn't pretty. Some tops and dresses and skirts, no pants

9 weeks out and a few things fit, but that's just luck. I'm about 20-25 lbs away from fitting back into all my clothes, and that's assuming everything goes back to where it came from

I'm 5 weeks out and my largest prepreg jeans fit in an unattractive manner. My shirts fit but it ain't pretty. I'm still up 25lbs

Within the first couple weeks, I fit into most things. But after getting ppd and overeating I now don't fit a lot at 11 months (almost) pp. It's much easier to gain weight now, I think, especially because we sometimes eat in the car when dd falls asleep in her carseat. (She is a terrible napper.) I'm now slowly starting to fit back into clothes, but there were some things I just threw away because I just didn't want to hold on to those expectations (nothing pricey.)

First time I tried was one week pp and my pre pregnancy jeans fit no problem. But I had also only gained 18lbs by the time I delivered and 6.5lbs was baby!

Almost 5 months and I have lost all the weight but everything shifted so none of my pants fit me. Well I have one pair of work pants in a size bigger then normal that I can wear and one pair of jeans that aren't super tight but aren't comfortable. Shorts I can wear cause I bought them in a bigger size while pregnant.

About 4 months I started wearing pre preg clothes but they didn't look good on me again until 9 months pp.

I was up to 174 lbs and was only at 156 lbs at 12 weeks when I fit into my pp jeans. It was weird.
I fit into my clothes aside from button downs even tho I still had a ton of weight to lose.
I'm 8 months pp and fit into all my clothes now, tho some shirts are still a lil tight in the boobs. Oh and I'm at 138 lbs

I haven't tried tops yet because I am pretty much exclusively wearing nursing tops, but I just went and tried on my pre-pregnancy jeans for the first time (I'm 4 days PP) and they "fit"--they zip and button, but they give me quite the muffin top. I am thinking they'll fit more comfortably in the next week or two.

I'm 4 months pp, and, uh ... I'll let you know
I bought new pants and shirts bc everything was just tight. No need to squeeze my new butt and boobs into old stuff.
nectarine / 2797 posts
At 12 weeks when I had to go back to work I bought two pairs of pants and a few shirts. I could wear some of my pre-preg shirts at that point. I did WW for a month then and was able to fit into the higher end of my pre-preg clothes other than some stuff that was too fitted in the bust. By 7 months PP I was in all my smaller pre-preg stuff. By 11 months PP I was buying new smaller stuff.

9.5 months out and a lot still doesn't fit! I think I'm holding on to some weight while breastfeeding (that and not exercising or dieting...) - I really should start working on it soon, I miss my clothes! For work I literally rotate two pants I bought in my first trimester (not maternity, but a size larger than my normal pants).

I was back in my old clothes within a week of returning home, which was incredibly surprising. I didn't imagine the weight would fall off as easily and swiftly as it did, but I'm not about to complain.
However, I do think it will be a while until I'm comfortable in anything form fitting, as I still have a lot of toning to do.

If by "pre pregnancy" you mean yoga pants... Hahaha
I was able to squeeze into my jeans at around 2-3 months PP, but I did weight watchers to ditch my last 7 lbs of pregnancy weight.

I am 11 weeks postpartum and while I still don't have my shape back and I have a few pounds to lose, I am back into my old pants size. My tops fit, it's just that they aren't so flattering!

Ha! I barely fit in anything pre-preg when I got pregnant at 6 months pp!!!
persimmon / 1361 posts
4 months... Maybe a little before. When I returned to work at 8 weeks, I was definitely still in maternity clothes. I refused to buy new clothes because I felt like it was accepting the extra weight!
nectarine / 2217 posts
Well, we ttc'd and got pregnant again at 7m pp, but I didn't fit into my prepreg jeans at that point-- still had 10lbs to go from the 40 I had gained. Shirts and dresses fit though.
pineapple / 12566 posts
Jeans at 2 weeks PP, they were tight, but by 3 weeks PP they fit mostly normally.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
It depends what you're talking about. I could wear non-maternity work out shorts and comfy t-shirts immediately. I bought them a size up, though, so i think that's cheating.
My pre-preg jeans fit a couple months later but it was uuuugly. Like, nobody should wear them ugly. I boxed them up and told myself I'd try again when I was closer to my usual weight. I'm 17 weeks PP and i'm wearing them (comfortably) at work today for the first time. I only have about 8 lbs to lose.
pomegranate / 3398 posts
I wore prepregnancy clothes home from the hospital.
At 16weeks PP I am in all of my clothes from before.

I lost the weight pretty quickly from BF, but with my C-section, I was in my maternity jeans for a little while afterwards. It just hurt entirely too much to have regular jeans on. I started wearing my regular clothes probably around 2 months pp. Now at 10.5 months pp, I'm getting back into my pre-pregnancy shape which was the best shape of my life.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Can you define "fit"? I can FIT into them, but I have major muffin-top, so I still choose to wear my maternity pants instead!
ETA: I'm 5 months pp
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
I started wearing my jeans at 4 weeks, I could have done earlier but they hit right where my c-section was and it hurt. Tops I wore right away.
persimmon / 1420 posts
To give you some hope, I was one of the lucky ones. I wore my regular jeans two days after giving birth. I always say that it was karma- it took me two years and almost $30k to get pregnant, so the universe thought that it owed me this one little thing.
pomegranate / 3383 posts
I said 3 weeks because I had a c-section and it hurt to wear non-spandex pants!! BUT, I also didn't buy any maternity pants so right after delivering I wore leggings and lululemon.

I'm only 2 weeks pp, but I haven't even attempted trying on any pre-pregnancy clothes. I've been living in maternity jeans and yoga pants. I feel like I still look 6 months pregnant except not in a cute way. haha
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@meganmp: Yay for some quick happy news for you!
I'm 3 weeks PP and about 10lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight, but my jeans are no where close to being able to be buttoned up. I was so sad, even though I look okay physically, I can't fit into my clothes. Even my shirts are tight. Been rocking my maternity jeans even though its 103 out. Good thing I enjoy wearing my maternity jeans. Ha!
