Starting to think about arrangements for our toddler when I go into labor.
When did you go into labor for your first and subsequent kids? What were your arrangements?

D was a preemie at 32 weeks. With S I went into labor at 39 weeks and M was scheduled at 39 weeks for a c section. With S and M, D stayed with my parents while I was in the hospital.

DS 40 weeks, dd 37 by dr calculation, 39 by mine. A friend stayed with DS until DH met me at hospital, the DH took care of DS while I was in hospital. My mom came down day I got discharged and helped at home first couple days.

Never went into labor naturally with LO 1 and I was induced at 41 weeks.
Scheduled csection for LO 2. No labor signs before that but MIL/SIL were on call to watch LO 1.

@Dandelion: @matador84: did you drop LO off at the grandparents or did they come over? What was the plan if you went into labor in MOTN?
I went into labor with #1 in the MOTN so I would hate to wake them up in the middle of the night! On the one hand my hospital is literally 5 minutes from the house. So I guess we either wake LO up (not desirable) and drop her off at the grandparents or wait for them to come over!

@locavore_mama: I did go into labor in middle of night. Plan was to call friend to come watch him, I ended up not making it to the hospital. Another friend stayed with him over night until DH got to house.,

@locavore_mama: D is older so he asked for us to wake him if we needed to go in the motn. We would have called my mom to come get him or have my mil come and stay with him overnight.
Thankfully, everything went as planned with M.

I had DS at 36 weeks… DD was born at 38 weeks. We all expected her to come earlier than that. We live in the same town as my parents and my in laws. The basic plan was for my mom to take DS when I went into labor. MIL was available for this on evenings and weekends as well, but the plan was primarily my parents. What ended up happening was I went into labor at a family dinner with the ILs but we ended up dropping DS off at my parents on the way to the hospital. My ILs and parents passed him back and forth some during the stay. It was over Christmas break for MIL had off work and was more flexible. DS slept at my parents for naps and bedtime but ILs had him some for another Christmas dinner and some play time too.

I was induced for DD, day before my due date (tropical storm coming). For my DS I went into labor 10 days prior to due date and my brother and SIL happened to be babysitting while my DH and I were out to celebrate our anniversary. They slept over with her that night so my parents could come to the hospital and after that my parents took over and kept her.

DD1 came on her due date; DD2 arrived 8.5 hrs past her due date (born at 8:30 am the day after her due date).
For LO2, we were living in an area far from family so we made arrangements with two of our friends. One friend was on MOTN duty - she has a 3 y/o and works full time but her mum was in town for an extended visit so it was easy enough for her to come over in the MOTN if the need arose (it did!). Another friend was on daytime duty as she was still on maternity leave, but with a 3 y/o and a 5 month old, MOTN would have been difficult for her.
I went into labour at 2:30 am and had friend 1 over by 3:30 a.m. so we could head to the hospital. Friend 2 dropped her older child off at day care and came over with her baby at 8:00 a.m. so friend 1 could head to work. We were home with our new baby by 1:30 that afternoon - we were home so quickly DD1 hadn't even had time to miss us! It worked out so much better than I could have imagined! I had been stressing about how DD1 would cope whilst we were gone but we were home so quickly, it was completely a non-issue!

Our plan is to have my parents already be here (they live 16 hours away) so they can stay with LO. If #2 comes early, LO will go with friends until my parents can get here.

@Weagle: yeah, I am struggling too with when to buy my mom's ticket for! She will be here for 2-3 months and I'd rather it all be when the new baby is here. Longer she stays out of daycare! But it will be nice to already have a adult in the house that can stay if I go into labor in the MOTN.
