When did you know your SO?

We met and and married in the span of 9 months and we were LD for 2.5 years.

I think I *know* DH now, but there was quite an adjustment period. The two biggest personality traits I didn't realize initially was just how stubborn he is and how closed off he can be to new ideas. The one weapon I have is silence. DH loves to discuss things and likes to persuade you to his side during debates. He is irked when I refuse to engage him. :happy:

What's something you learned later in your relationship?

Awesome thread!!

Hmm I think I "knew" him once we got married and were living together. He's very hard to read, but he's amazing at reading everyone. But he asks too many damn questions! So like if I'm just in a crabby mood, and just want to be left alone, he just sits there and pries until he finds out why I'm mad, or upset. Sometimes I just don't want to talk about it!! hahahaha I think he means well though, he's very much a problem solver.

hmm interesting!

i think we "knew" each other very well when we moved in together, around the 2 year mark--the year before we lived ~3 blocks from each other so were basically living together in 2 apartments (and with his roommate, haha) during that year, so most the kinks were worked out.

but then 6 months after that his father got very, very ill and we went through a really hard patch because he wasn't handling it very maturely (i.e., no one *likes* hospitals but you suck it up for family). i saw a new side to him, and i think i learned a new side about me as well, but we really developed our communication skills to get through it stronger than before.

We dated for 2 months before dating long distance for 3 years! We got married after I graduated college (at the end of the 3 years of long distance dating), and then obviously started living together. That was quite the shock!! Even though we'd dated for soooo long, we'd hardly spent any time in each other's presence, so living together was sooo different. I didn't really KNOW him until being married for like 6 months. Good thing I still liked him, because it could have very easily gone the other way!

I knew him within a couple months.
We were engaged after 7 months and married right around 18months of being together.

I've learned how sensitive he is. He's very emotional and open with his feelings and I really love that about him.
I can irk him by ending an argument with 'whatever'

We were friends for several years before dating, but it wasn't until about 6 months-1 year of dating that we finally relaxed around each other enough to really show who we are.

I would say that I really knew him around the 1 year mark. I always felt like I knew him well, but that was around the time we were practically living together (except I still had my place...just wasn't going there).

I can say I "knew" him before we started dating. I had absolutely no intentions of dating him and he thought he did not have a chance so we became really good friends and we told each other everything. We spent so much time together, I fell in love with him. When we moved in together it wasn't anything different or drastic.thank God it was a smooth transition.

It's hard to remember. Somewhere around 3 years? We started dating at 19, and *I* was incredibly immature at that time. I honestly have NO idea how he stayed with me. So I was too self-absorbed to get to know him properly. But he stuck it out for some crazy reason, and we got married after 5 years and have been married now for 4. I now really feel like I know him better than I've ever known anyone. (And yet, I STILL struggle to find him birthday/Christmas gifts. He's impossible.)

DH and I knew each other for 2.5 years before we started dating - we were best friends. There was very little I discovered after we started dating!!

I don't think we knew each other completely until we moved in together. We had just gotten engaged and had been dating a year at that point.

Hmmm we met when we were kids and grew up together, but I don't think I KNEW him until midway through college- about 3 years after we started dating.

I didn't "know" him - or start to really know him - until we starting living together, about 7 months after we met and started dating.
