I was pretty young, and my aunt had a pool so we went there all the time in the summer. I always loved the water, and I learned to swim by my parents throwing me in the deeper end one day and letting myself "figure it out". That was frightening, but I learned to swim!

I was 14. My parents aren't big water people, but we pushed for swimming lessons. I'm still not comfortable in deep water, so LO will for sure be getting swim lessons at an early age and I am planning on taking adult lessons to increase my confidence.

When I was like, 2 or 3? I don't really remember. My parents had all of us kids learn how to swim really early, which was great. I love the water!

@yoursilverlining: I don't know how to swim either!

I took a swimming class at the YMCA when I was 12, but they put me in a class with 3-4 year old kids. It was beyond embarrassing, and I was pretty much ignored. I kind of figured it out by the end of the class but have since forgotten. I have a huge fear of water, and I don't want my LO to be like me. Hopefully I'll have him enrolled in a class this summer.

My grandparents had a swimming pool so we were in the water by around 6months, I don't really know when I officially learned to swim.

Around 2 or 3. I grew up in Florida so we were little water babies, always at the beach or in the pool

@yin: oh thank godness, I was beginning to think I was the only person here who can't swim! Yeah, I'm afraid of water too; I mean, I like to interact with it like being on a boat or going to the beach, but I don't like to get in it, haha. I really hope my LO isn't afraid of water too.

Wow I'm surprised by how many learned to swim as toddlers!

started lessons when I was in kindergarden (can't remember if it was before it started or after) but I was scared because I was the only one who couldn't touch, all the other kids were taller and could. I eventually got over it and loved to swim and became a lifeguard myself.

without help? I was in lessons from a baby but I remember thinking I was swimming for real at probably 5? I have the memory but I don't know how old I was.

I was around 8 or 9. I'd like to teach my kids when they are younger than that. We go to the neighborhood pool fairly often in the summer.
