When and why did you move your lo out of their crib?
My husband asked last night when kids are moved to beds. We're not anywhere ready yet, we're both just curious! Is it when they get to heavy to lift into the crib?

We moved my DD when she started jumping out at 18 months. DS we thought was going to be a jumper too, but aside from the one time, he hasn't done it since, so he is still in the crib (22 months). We are thinking of moving him into the trundle bed to keep DD company when he turns 2, though.

We did it at 2 only because I wanted her used to her twin bed before the baby came. And I needed the crib for the baby!

i think it was 26 months? shortly after two. he had been able to climb out of the crib for a while, but the sleep sack kept him in there for a couple extra months. then he learned how to climb out with the sleep sack and it just wasn't safe anymore.

@mediagirl: we moved her at 22 months because we wanted the crib for her younger brother, who was debuting when she would be 26 months.

We're planning on moving her to a floor bed in the next few months. Her younger sibling will be born right around when she turns 2 and I need the nursery for bebe #2.

We will keep him in the crib for as long as possible!!! Thankfully he is not a climber (or much of a daredevil at all).
If we waited until we couldn't physically lift him in and out of the crib then he'd probably be in high school by that point!

I am curious as well. J is 17 months and nowhere near ready - he doesn't try to climb out.

I'm keeping her in as long as possible...probably when/if LO 3 arrives!

Like @Mrs. High Heels, we just did this so we can use the crib for new baby, who is due in October. LO is 25 months and has done really well so far. But he was sleeping great in his crib and I think I would have kept him there until 3ish if not for the time constraints!

@Sammyfab: same here! DS is 2.5 and has never tried to climb out. He is also a champion sleeper, so I don't want to risk ruining anything. We will have to kick him out in December though when baby 2 arrives and we need the crib.

I read that 2- 21/2 is the ideal time to transition. I already see signs of M trying to climb out at 16 weeks.

@lavender: do you remember where you read that? Is it bad to wait longer? My daughter just turned two and can climb out but she doesn't so I am debating about what to do. She is a great sleeper!

I was wondering this too! I think we may switch her crib to the toddler bed around 1.5/2...unless she still isn't trying to escape by then. We will buy this baby a new crib anyway.

At 22-23 months...We wanted her to get used to her bed in plenty of time before the arrival of baby#2.

@MrsHotDog: I read it as a blurb in a parenting magazine, could not tell you for the life of me which one though!

DS was between 20 and 21 months. He figured out how to take off his sleep sack and climb out if his crib. He never tried climbing out before that. I was so worried about the transition affecting his sleep but he's done great. We converted his crib into a toddler bed for a month of two but now he's sleeping on a floor bed. We'll use the crib for baby #2.

12 months. She always hated the crib so when we moved we put it up but also just put a mattress on the floor and she always ended up on the mattress so then we just took the crib down after a month.

She has started being able to climb out of the crib at 16 months, so we're transitioning now.

21-22 months
We wanted to do it around age two because we knew she was tall and would be able to climb out easily. Around May (21 months) we got her room set up. Without us prodding really she asked to sleep in her new room. It was a very successful transition. But her twin bed does have rails all the way around (its the top bunk of a set that we have unbunked).

Around 3 months before his 3rd birthday. Late, I know but he loved his crib.

Our toddler rails came in the mail yesterday. When I asked my dad when we should do it, he suggested we go ahead (at 18 months). In a bief moment of insane excitednrss I suggested to DH we go ahead and do it. So we thought we mighttry this weekend. Or not. Who knows. We'll see what little man does.
