DS will be 15 months in a week and it's been a while since we wore him..

i am not sure when I will. my LO is 16 months and I still use it quite a bit. I have even been thinking about getting a toddler carrier (like the Tula) for when he is older. For now the Beco and my mei tai are still used a few times a week at least.......although if i think about it, it may be that we still use them a lot because he started walking not long ago and it is winter here, so we wear him outside a lot. that might change in the summer.

@californiadreams: How heavy is he now? We have the Beco Gemini and C is starting to feel a little bit heavy in it, but she's only 7 months, 16-ish pounds. I think I need to just readjust it, but I'm curious how comfortable it is with your toddler?
@chopsuey: Obviously, we have not retired it yet! I hope to be able to keep using it until she is solidly walking by herself, since it makes walking the dog so much easier than having to carry her down the stairs, put her in the stroller, and deal with the stroller and the dog.

I have no idea when we will - LO is 21 months and I wear her a lot still!

about 13 months. charlie was too heavy to carry longer than that.
about the same with olive too even though she was way lighter.

@chopsuey: Great question! I don't remember when I stopped using the Ergo with #1, I know DH wore him on his back for awhile around 18ish months before we got a backpack carrier.
#2 is 20 months (and around 23 pounds) and I haven't used the Ergo much since last fall, I'm wondering if I should sell it now or wait and see if I use it as a back carrier when it gets warmer.

I'm still wearing Jax while pregnant. He's 22 months and 30lbs. He outgrew a standard buckle carrier a long time ago though, so if that was all I had, I wouldn't be wearing him anymore either.

@Foodnerd81: he is 20 pounds. Pretty small for his size. I've always used the wider seat adjustment with the Gemini because we got it when he was 5.5 months. I am starting to prefer the mei tai over the beco too since the mei tai has a much wider seat and I find his are dangling a lot in the beco now.... But I still use the beco often because it is faster to put on.

DS is 18 months and I can't wear him! He's like 23 pounds but too big for me at least.
pomegranate / 3411 posts
My goal is to master back carries now that he is getting bigger actually. I've only done it in an ergo sport with someone helping me get him on.

Regularly? Around 17-18 months LO was over it. But when she's sick I still wear her.
nectarine / 2163 posts
I still occasionally wear my 30lb 18 month old in back carry of the ergo! mostly when I'm cooking dinner, because invariably, the second I'm busy in the kitchen, all he wants is to be held -____- I would probably wear him more often than that if I didn't have an infant to deal with too
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@californiadreams: hmm I tried the wider seat about a month ago and it wasn't good, but I also had her in a snow suit that was too tight- oops. Maybe that's part of te problem and I should switch it again.

I wear LO daily at 9 months and he is a big boy (23 lbs). I don't foresee us stopping anytime soon. I hate using the stroller!

Wear my 30lb 18 months pretty much daily, probably 15-30 minutes at a time. DH will wear her for much longer when we're out for walks.
We did switch from the boba to a toddler tula around 12 months 26lbs) and it was a huuuge improvement!

Still going strong at 15 months! I'd like a tula, but I hate to spend the money.

I haven't in a while but I would still carry my 26lb 27 month old if I were going on the train or public transportation.

Still wear her in the boba. But thinking I should get a toddler Tula!

I mostly stopped around the time he could sit in a shopping cart...prob around 10 or 11
Months. It's still out and I think there might come a time one day...but he prefers to be on his own unless he's really sleepy or upset.

J is 24 months and I haven't in awhile but I'm sure I will come this summer. We liked to use it for trips out but it's been too cold. I would still wear him though!

I haven't worn my son since he was maybe 26 months (now 3 years). He's a bruiser at about 37lbs these days.

C will be 2 in 3 weeks and I just wore her in our Ergo last weekend. Did it for 3.5 hours and had no problem. She's 36" tall and 29lbs.

DS is 18 months and I still put him in the ergo, even at 33 weeks pregnant.

With DD 1 we stopped a few months after she turned 1 yo. Can't remember exactly anymore!
DD2, we did stop around 15-18 months, but then started up again all the way til she was around 2 years, 3 months! I only stopped because I was 16 weeks pg at the time, so my belly was starting to pop and she didn't like back carries.

i'm still wearing LO in the ergo--he's almost 14 months old and about 22 pounds. i use it almost daily because it's the easiest way i can walk our 2 dogs with LO by myself. i also use it on the weekends close to dinnertime when his energy starts to run out but i need him to stay awake a bit longer.
@birdofafeather: @rattles: @californiadreams: i've also thought about getting the tula toddler carrier! have you guys tried one? i think we're still okay in the ergo for now, but if we continue to baby wear for a while and the seat becomes too narrow for him, tula here i come! (i'm not advanced enough for a wrap)
grapefruit / 4923 posts
@Beyond2: wow, that's amazing! i'm assuming you have LO in the back carry position? i bet people do a double-take when they see you, supermom!

Just before he turned 3 is when he wanted to walk most of the time himself so I stopped wearing C around that time. I use a Boba 3G. At his 3 year appointment he was 32 lbs.

I don't want to ever stop wearing her. We still do!! (21 months)
pear / 1517 posts
@edelweiss: Haha yes, back carry! People always look at me funny when they see it honestly though it makes pregnancy more comfortable because it evens out the weight distribution! (well for a little while anyways, it is a lot of weight combined).
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
C loved being carried as baby baby because he preferred being upright vs laying in his infant bucket seat. I also wore him when we traveled or went to places that weren't stroller friendly.
I live in the suburbs and him being able to sit up on his own now makes grocery shopping easier, and I don't need to wear him anymore. It's been 3 months since I last wore him, and I kind of miss it.
pineapple / 12053 posts
@edelweiss: i haven't, but i'm gonna try to find a place locally that sells them! i've seen a couple toddlers recently in them.
pomegranate / 3393 posts
We had stopped wearing LO for a while, other than short stints here and there, but then we found a MAGIC carrier that hits the sweet spot, he loves it as much as both DH and I do, even falls asleep in it often, and it makes his almost 25 pounds feel like nothing. Magic, I tell you! I'm imagining we'll use this carrier until he surpasses the weight limit (45 lbs) or LO stops wanting to be worn. He's 9 months.

She didn't want to be worn anymore once she turned one. So sad today I tried to put her in the ergo (she's 26 months) and she got really mad and just wanted to be carried instead

@edelweiss: I just got my tula toddler and still regularly wear my 3 year old (29 lb). It is so nice. I was even able to put him back on my front which he prefers.
I must admit though he does a lot of walking. Almost all the way through ikea today and throughout dland.

I don't see us stopping anytime soon. I imagine we'll still be wearing her through toddlerhood.
