This is our last day with the pacifier, It's my LOs new years resolution. 
She just turned 15 months so I know It's just going to get harder to take it away as she gets older. We've had it down to just nap time, bed time and in the car (since she hates the car seat) for the last 2 months, But tomorrow it's gone for good. I'm really anxious to see how things go!
When did you say goodbye to the binki?

LO stopped using it at 4 months when she found her thumb. I think weaning her off her thumb will be a struggle.

Both DDs it was right at 1 year. At 9 months we kept the pacfier in the crib only, no exceptions. then we went cold turkey. The first night or two was rough, but after that they never really asked for it.

@lovelife: DS will be 16 months old in a few days and gets his paci for naptime and bedtime. I really want to take it away but I am so worried about how it will affect his sleep. I'd love to hear how it goes and how you do it! Good luck!

She never really liked pacis. We give up trying when she was a fee months old.

This thread makes me worried. LO doesn't take a paci..... so that's not an issue. But she's a thumb sucker. She's 17 months, passed the age that all of you said that you're taking away the paci. I can't take away her thumb!

We dropped the pacifier at 19 months. We had realized he was just holding it in his mouth most of the time, not really sucking on it so we just picked them all up and threw them away and never mentioned it to our son. There wasn't too much protest. We've had to rock him to sleep occasionally but not too bad all in all.

DD still has her paci, she'll be three in March. We have talked about giving her paci to the new babies who need pacis, and she FREAKED "my need fuffy (that's what she calls it) my need it to sleep. Big girls use pink fuffies and babies use yellow (hers is pink)." I have a feeling it is going to be a HUGE fight....
DS is 10 months old and I think he is going to give his paci to the new babies when he turns on (in the hopes that DD follows)

Dd is 14 months old, we're trying to only use it for naps and bedtime but it's not working. I'm going to pull it cold turkey as soon as she's over this cold. She's starting to just play with it.

My DS is 22 months and we are having a hard time getting rid of it. He is getting it only for naps and bedtime. We've gone cold turkey a couple of times, but one of us gives in and gives it back when he's screaming for it (like a couple of nights ago where he cried for 40 mins at 5a)...
I want it to be gone!!!

DD is 11 months and only uses it for nap/bedtime and the carseat. We know we need to take it away sooner rather than later, but she's already a terrible sleeper, I hate to make that any worse so we're prolonging it for just a little bit.

He rejected it as soon as he found his hands (3 months?). He is 8.5 months and doesn't suck his thumb yet (he chews his fingers), but I am perhaps a human pacifier with 2-4 night wakings most nights.

@cvbee: 2 1/2 months. Also the age when she started sleeping 12 hours straight through the night

LO is 10 months and he used to be a paci addict and wanted it more during the day than for sleeping (naps only , not nights). I stopped bringing the paci out of his room a few weeks ago and we have started to not give it to him during naps. I think we can be fully weaned by 1! I'm all about gradual weaning rather than going cold turkey!

LO is 18 mos and still gets it for sleeping, and occasionally when fussy. We try not to let him just hang out with it, though. I'm scared to wean him from it!

@Sweet T: Its going good so far! She didn't have it at all yesterday! I rocked her until her eyes got heavy and laid her down for an hour nap in the afternoon. Last night I read her books, while rocking her and laid her down with heavy eyes again. She didn't even wake up once and this morning she was quiet until I got her out of bed. (she usually wakes up yelling). Today's was a little more tough, I laid her down after rocking again and she started crying about 2-3 minutes later. I let her cry herself to sleep.

LO is six months and we are just now taking it away for all non-sleeping situations. She doesn't really take anymore to sleep either now that we are CIO, so we may pull it away there too soon.

@MamaBehr: what a logical little on you have.
DD gave it up when she found her thumb at around 3months, now at 33 months we are struggling with when to stop the thumb sucking; on a side note our dentist and pedi don't see her still doing it as a bad thing right now.
DS is 16w and we are hoping he'll stick with the paci and not goto his thumb. If he sticks with the paci we will likely stop it at around 1year.
When my sister stopped giving her son the paci he switched to his thumb so that could happen.
