So, we've gotten a lot of things from our registry and I don't know what to do. Did you set up the gear you got right away? We have a swing and a bouncy chair. Do babies go in them right away? Should I wait until she is here or older?

I did just because I love to be prepared! No harm in doing it early, things are soooo crazy once the baby arrives.

I waited on some things - like the bouncer. knew it would be a while before she could use it so we stored it in the attic.

I set as many things up beforehand as possible, like the pack n play, stroller and bassinet. I did wait on things that I knew he wouldn't use right away like his play mat. I am glad I did because it took me two weeks to find the time to put the pack n play away now that we aren't using it on a daily basis!

I set things up a week before my induction? Maybe? Everything was used as soon as I brought her home-pack n play, swings, bouncers...
Set them up before the baby's here! They're a pain and the battery packs are super hidden!

I've been setting things up as we get them. I do need to unpack the snap and go though, but there are some things in the room I need to clear up first.

Fun fact: Neither of my kids had a place to sleep when they were born. As in I was in the hospital, no cribs/cradles/bassinets - nothing was set up. The first time was because they decided to rip up the carpet in the master bedroom of our old house the day after I gave birth. DS and I weren't even in our own house for the first two weeks of his life, we were at my parent's house. The carpet they were tearing up? Well, the subflooring was no good. Then the posts or whatever that hold up the subflooring was no good... one thing after another, they literally had to demo the whole room and build it back up from the braces! It was insanity. I was freaking out the entire time because I was 30 minutes away and as soon as hubs got off work he went straight to work on that room so he could get DS and I home.
With DD we had just closed on our current house days before she was born. She was born late late Sunday and we were released late Tuesday. Thankfully we only had to spend a few days at my parent's house this time so we had some place for her to go (the bassinet) on Thursday when the family 'officially' moved into the house
Fun fun times.

We set stuff up around 37 weeks. The baby will use the swing and the bouncy chair right away
(p.s. still sooooo excited for you!!!)

I would definitely set it up before she gets here. I think we set ours up around 35 or 36 weeks? She was in both the bouncer and swing within a few days of being home from the hospital. You won't want to worry about setting it up and adjusting to life with a newborn. I say get as much done now as you can!

I agree with @lawbee11, i would set things up now if you have the space.

I think we set everything up around 35 weeks. We used the stroller, bouncy seat and swing as soon as we came home from the hospital.
ETA- by late in my pregnancy, I had mommy brain super bad, so my husband got the more complicated things to put together (Usually that is my talent, but with the swing, I just could not wrap my brain around that one, I would read an instruction, then forget it and go back, and forget it again....etc). And mommy brain only got worse from there, so I definitely would not have done well putting things together even later.

I agree with setting up everything now that you have time and space for. I didn't set up my pump before DD arrived b/c I didn't think I would need it right away. That was a huge mistake, and I probably lost a lot of ground on breastfeeding b/c it was hard to find time to sanitize it and get it all set up and working once DD arrived.

I had my shower at 35 weeks and was put on bed rest at 35+2 and then hospitalized a few days later. M was born at 36 weeks and my mom and sister ended up setting everything up for us! It worked for us but it couldn't hurt to do it a little early

We set everything up about 34-35 weeks so that we won't have to worry about it when we get back from the hospital.

Set things up as you get them so they are ready to go. It is hectic enough bringing home a new baby as it is.

The swing, bouncer, bassinet, yes. The play mat was the only thing we didn't set up.

We set up the crib and stroller as soon as we got them. We also set up the bassinet right when we got it, but we got it shortly before I was due. DH set up the swing after we got home from the hospital. The bouncer was a hand me down so we didn't have to assemble that!

Probably was around 37 or 38 weeks. We set up the RnP, bouncer, and PnP ( diaper changes in our room). We got a swing from someone.

The bed was set up around 36 weeks. The bouncy chair didn't need much setting up, but was ready to go right away. We didn't get a swing until later, but looking back, I would set that up right before you are due as it can be used from day one.

We set everything up around 35 weeks.....mainly because we moved a few hundred miles away at that point! I was worried about things becoming dusty, so I threw old sheets over everything to keep it dust free until we brought baby home.
We used the swing, PnP, and pram right away; the play mat we started using around 4 weeks I think but we had it ready to go before LO arrived.

Thanks for all the advice ladies! Right now we are surrounded by boxes and I'm overwhelmed looking at it all, so I think that adds to the panic. We do have the PnP set up in our room. I think today I'll pick up some of the clutter in the living room and start setting up our swing and bouncy chair. I never used them a lot as a baby, according to my mom, BUT my DH is the type of person that has to be moving all the time, so there is a good chance our LO will take after him.

@Jennimac: Just tackle a little bit a day. No reason to stress about doing it all at once.

Apparently, I'm crazy. I set up stuff as I got it. There was no way I could have just looked at the boxes. I was too excited!

I got everything at 34 weeks, and I assembled things pretty much right away. I would get bored during the day, though, so it kept me busy.
