My bff said she was told 2 weeks but it was because of the pain meds, which she stopped taking a few days after surgery.
I know it depends on planned/unplanned because of recovery times but I'm curious for both.
My reason for this is because of DS' s school drop off and pick up. Its only a mile away. I'm wondering how long I'll have to rely on my (always late) mom for this.

The last time I took anything stronger than ibuprofen for my c-section was while I was still in the hospital. So I drove nearly immediately after, which isn't really smart, because your reaction times will be off. (Then again I was also moving heavy boxes, because we were moving cross country 3 weeks later. Not superhuman, just dumb.)
The hardest part of healing for me was getting up from a laying down position. Anything after that was fine, but everyone is totally different.

I drove for the first time on Thursday (exactly one week after c -section). I stopped taking the pain meds on day 5.
@Espion: same here. I'm still sore when I get up from lying down, but everything else is almost normal.

I drove 10 days after my C-section and loved every single minute of it! Going to the grocery store by myself had never been so much fun. I felt like a trapped bird who was able to fly again.

I waited two weeks after the first one - I didn't take any narcotics after going home but when they discharged me, they told me that since my instructions were not to drive for 2 weeks, if I were in an accident, insurance would not pay for anything and I would be completely liable since I hadn't followed instructions. (Or something along those lines.) I felt totally fine to drive but figured, why risk it.

Two weeks per the instructions I was given. I wasn't taking meds anymore but honestly being in the car too long was uncomfortable. The positioning bothered me, I guess.

The only restriction I was given was not to drive while using narcotic pain meds; but in honesty they were not strong enough for me to be "out of it" enough not to have been able to drive. I drove after I think like 2 weeks....felt like forever!!!

I was told two weeks. I drove after about 10 days, but I made sure I was off my pain meds for a couple of days before. My dr said you want to feel ok enough to slam on the brakes.

Two weeks. I waited the whole two weeks. My doc said it was really a problem of if you're in or avoiding an accident, it's really hard to slam on the brakes if your abdomen is still healing. I took her at her word and didn't drive.

I waited 5 weeks. I had a really hard time getting in and out of the car. I probably could have started earlier than that but I took the narcotics for a full 2 weeks and I was just really nervous about leaving the house with LO.

My OB written instructions said no driving for 6 weeks, I obeyed the rule.

I didn't get any instruction from my doctor. I drove myself to my two week check up.

I was told 2 weeks not because of pain meds, but because in an emergency situation if you brake suddenly my OB said the pain will go right to your incision.

Hmm...ok, I guess I'll have my mom helping me for at least a full week. Who knows, maybe I'll get to love the pick up service for DS so I don't have to lug LO out in the car to go get him, lol.

@Dandelion: my dr also added the stipulation that I needed to feel like I could slam on the brakes hard. When he gave me that visual and feeling I knew I needed to wait a while. I stopped my pain meds after a week and then I drove about four days after that.
EtA: I'm so tired I just realized I already wrote that. Oh my.

I waited a week. They tell you two weeks, but I felt fine to do it at a week.
