I waited until she was able to sit completely unassisted for some time, which was 6 months.

I just started using high chairs at restaurants at about 7 months but we started using our high chair at home at 6 months.. I haven't put him in the front of the grocery cart yet but I'm sure he could handle it.

As soon as he could sit up unassisted, so 4ish months. We put a blanket behind him for support if he didn't quite fit. We still keep him in the carrier for grocery shopping though.

We probably are going to do this once it's warmer (which isn't helpful lol!). O is 21 weeks Thursday so just a bit older than E. She's already sitting tripod so I think by the time we transition she will be sitting up better.

When my daughter was sitting pretty well unassisted, which was 7 months maybe? For shopping carts.

We started when LO was 6.5 months old. I wanted to make sure he was very good at sitting up unassisted.

@Running Elley: That is something I didn't think about until reading your post! C is almost done in her infant car seat, but definitely not sitting up well enough (or on her own at all) to go in the front of the grocery cart. I guess I will have to put her in carrier for the in between time we switch car seats until she is ready for the seat in the cart.

Our high chair is one that goes on the seat of a regular chair, and has a to go strap so when and if we ever got to a restaurant we would sit her in that no problem, like we do at home. I think a regular restaurant high chair would still have too many gaps for her to be any bit sturdy in.

I think we could do it now at 8 months but I prefer to just wear her, that way I can use the cart for stuff. haha. I have put her in it once and she did fine. I think I would wait until the lo could sit up without assistance and for long periods of time.

@RunningElley - you cannot be ready to switch out of the infant carseat yet?!?!?! Time is going by too fast! What are the weight/height limits on your carseat? I'm wondering if we need to be moving out of ours too!
