I can't wait to start reading to our LO but at 9 weeks it seems kinda silly. ESP since he doesn't really sit and focus right now!

We read to LO a few times before she was born...I thought that was a little silly but I still enjoyed it. We started reading the first week at home.

We started reading to DD around a 2 months. She didn't understand but she did stare at the book sometimes. Now she loves books and it calms her down. =)

I've read to him already, and he's not here yet! I will probably read to him from a very early age, even though he won't understand.

We have read to her since we had a bedtime routine which started around 10 weeks. She still doesn't pay much attention but I want her to know what books are so she gets 3 books every night.

We started the night they came home from the hospital! At first, I think, it's more about allowing them to listen to the sound/tone/cadence of your voice.
Our LO's are now four months, and we read to them at every nap and bedtime routine, as well as a couple of times throughout the day. They still pretty much just enjoy listening to the change in our vocal tones, but now they're taking interest in the pictures, too!
I say go for it. If nothing else, it's a great thing to add into any bedtime routine you may be establishing!

I read to her around 8 weeks. It was nice because we'd lie down next to each other, and i'd just put the book up and read. I can't do that anymore!

i read to LO since the day we came home from the hospital, although i agree that it feels pretty silly, even at 9 weeks old. for now, it's one of the things to do while i'm keeping him upright after a feeding. it also gives me something to say besides "hi, are you going to poop?"

Since he came home! At about two months he started looking at pictures and now at four months its also a part of his bedtime routine.

Since week 1! It's never consistent and not every night still (4 months), but he loves it when we do and stares at the pictures and responds back to us too! We have to make more time for it as part of the nighttime routine... but sometimes he just wants the boob post-bath!

@edelweiss: hahahaha this just made me realize how much our conversations with LO are about poop !!!

We've been reading to LO since he was born. in the really early days we were just reading whatever book we were reading or the newspaper to him so he could hear our voices more.... We started reading kid books to him around 2 months old - so we still read those, and sometimes my husband still reads the paper to him, ha.... but he's definitely more interested in the kid books now to look at the pictures & listen to the rhythms.

We started reading while I was pregnant and we continued. At 8 months, he loves books that are beyond his age group. He actually claps during reading time because he's so excited. I felt silly reading to him early on, but now I don't regret it.

I didn't start to read to him consistently until LO was 6 months old. Now he absolutely loves books and reads throughout the day.

I started reading to her at 8 weeks when she was relaxing in the bath, it was perfect time for her to focus on the pictures. Now at almost 6 months we reaad all the time, at bath, at bed, when we are out and about.

With my son, we started reading to him at around 3 or 4 months. But he's always been fascinated by books. My DD is 8 months and could care less about being read to. =\ We still try but he usually just flips the pages or tries to eat it.

we made it part of her bedtime routine consistenly at around 10 weeks. At first I would sit her up on my lap and she was SUPER uninterested ... then I saw Mrs. Tricycle's post where her lo and dh were reading on their backs with the book above them ..... I tried it that way and she LOVED it. She is super focused on the pictures and coos and kicks her legs. It's seriously become my favorite thing to do with her. {She LOVES "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "Eating the Alphabet" ... I think because the colors are so vivid against the white background}

Since we brought him home from the hospital. I actually have a picture of my husband reading to LO on his first day home. It does feel silly, but it got more fun in time.

Before she was born. Then the day I brought her home. Now at 18 months she's obsessed. READ THE BOOK MAMA is probably her most uttered phrase.

We started as soon as we brought LO home. I didn't always read him baby/picture books, though. During the newborn stage, I figured it was more about hearing the sounds of English, so he heard a lot of the newspaper and whatever book I was reading, too. I mostly read those things to him while nursing.

We started some reading really early...a matter of weeks I think, but started a bedtime routine, which includes reading 2 books, around 4 months. He usually pays attention, but sometimes (like last night) is trying to roll out of my lap and fussing, but I still think its good to get him exposure to books every day.

We started reading to DS when he was in the womb. We read to him everynight as part of the bedtime routine.

We started pretty much from birth. LO is now 7 months old, and we have daily story time, as well as reading before every nap and bed.

I also started from birth. He doesn't focus and sometimes I stop when he really doesn't seem into I, but he still hears the language which I think is huge. I actually am thinking about starting to read an adult book out loud so I'm still reading for me. I think I read someone else doing that.

we started from the day we brought her home, but not every day. my mom found this bookworm light up book that sings the lyrics that are printed. she flipping loves the lights! but normal books are great, even if she can't pay attention much. i like @Mrs Green Grass: idea! that's a good one!

@Mrs Green Grass: oooooh good idea. Wonder if Hecwould enjoy Insurgent ? Haha !
I'm a reading slacker ! We need to get on it ! I also like the idea of laying on our backs and holding the books overhead
