embarrassing confession here--LO is 4.5 months old and i have yet to use soap/shampoo during his almost nightly baths. he's EBF and not crawling yet (i.e. not getting into a lot or jumping in puddles or anything), so i feel like a thorough wipedown with a washcloth and plenty of water usually does the trick. we have the baby soap all ready to go, i just haven't made the jump.
when did you start using soap/shampoo on your LO?

Probably 2-3 months? Only because it was summer and she is a hot baby and was sweating a lot!

Right away! I didn't know this was something people put off. We sponge bathed here until her umbilical stump fell off but we still used soap on the wash cloth.

Right away. We like aveeno baby body wash but use J and J shampoo on his head. For some reason his head needs sonething more soapy/less creamy than the aveeno !

Yep right away, once or twice a week. Now that he gets food on him, more often. It's super gentle so it doesn't stress me.

Right away, as soon as the stump fell off. But she goes to daycare and I am adamant about washing all those daycare germs off of her!

Right away. We use soap every other day so she doesn't dry out. But I think going to start using it every night now she is almost 3 months and at day care. Use shampoo every night. This is mostly cause a lot of times when she spits up, when sitting, it drips behind her neck so gets her hair in the back.

@MamaMoose: It is so gross. Girlfriend is a messy eater with the bottle. Day care has had to change her outfits and bibs multiple times a day.

as soon as his stump fell off. we use a couple of drops in the bath water, but use shampoo on his head because he has a TON of hair... he needs it!

As soon as her umbilical stump fell off, which was like 5 days old. I didn't even know people didn't use soap. I guess she didn't need it for the first month. After we had to start supplementing with formula though - stink city!

Right away! We use moisturizing stuff b/c of her eczema. She just gets so smelly if you just rinse her off. And with all the creams we put on her, she gets greasy. yuck.

Right away because he had cradle cap and our pedi suggested it. But now (10 months) he gets a nightly bath but I really only use soap maybe twice a week.

@edelweiss: I'm with you! We've used shampoo for a while (not that she has any hair!) but even at 8 months I don't put much soap in the tub itself. If she's super messy or has sunscreen on I will, but it's not a priority.
