I was 13 when I started wearing mascara and a little pressed powder. I have no problem with LO starting around the same time.

I wore powder, lip gloss and clear mascara when I was 13 and some colored stuff when I was 15. I would be ok with the same time line.

Honestly, not till college and even then, not a lot! Just not a big make-up person. I mean, I had some make-up in HS for dances and what not.

My mom let me start wearing a little bit of blush and some lip gloss when I was 13. I wore a little more when I got into HS (but not a lot). I wear make-up daily now, but try to go for a pretty natural look.

I guess I was around 12, 13. I had terrible acne around that age, so I mostly wore foundation/concealer to try and cover it up. I wouldn't deter LO from doing the same if she wanted to. I guess I'm planning to just see if and when she gets interested in it...just hope it's not too soon though! I see lots of 8-10yrs olds getting in to make up already

when i was 13, i think it was foundation and lipstick. later on eyeliner and mascara. i don't do foundation/powder anymore unless i am dressing up for something special. at one point i got grossed out rubbing that into my skin everyday!

Freshman year in HS. I'll let DD wear make-up then too.

I was allowed lip gloss from the start & I had about a thousand tubes. Then around 7th grade I was allowed mascara & eyeshadow. My mom always encouraged me to go natural though & I always had to buy my own make up. I think I started regularly wearing a "full face" around my sophomore year in high school. I really don't know what we will decide for LO. I want her to really appreciate herself for who she is without that stuff because it took me a long time to feel confident. I also wasn't allowed to dye/highlight my hair until high school which I think is a great rule & will definitely implement that

I wasn't into it til highschool. I mean I always liked lip gloss and that kind of stuff, but nothing else. Still hvent worn foundation. Zuma can wear it whenever she wants.

@anonysquire: his CW's daughter is into real make up, not the play kind. She said her daughter is into boys and always has her ipod on.

Maybe I don't get kids these days? I feel so old for saying that! When I was 8, I was into my Barbie Dream House. Boys weren't even on my radar until 6th or 7th grade!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: oh wow! Ya I didn't like boys til 8th grade. And still liked Barbies when I was like 16.

12/13 is when I started to wear powder and mascara. Before then I wore clear lip gloss for a few years. I'd let DD's do the same. I'd want them to wait until 14 to wear shadow, lipstick and blush. 16 for eye liner.

I started wearing Clinique Almost Liptstick when I was a junior. I think that would be a good age for my DD, but I'll have to see when she gets older. She came home with a sample size lipstick that one of her little friends gave her and asked to wear it.. She's not even 6 yet! It must have been something that the other mommy gave to her friend for dress up and ended up at school.

I think I was in 8th grade? I wouldn't mind if she started wearing a little around 12-13.

I don't think it was because I wasn't allowed necessarily, but I was never interested. I started to wear makeup for special occasions at 15/16 just lipstick really. I barely wear it now. I also think that back in the late 80s/early 90s when I was teen, there were crappy color options for Black women, so I just didn't bother. None of my friends were into makeup, so I don't think I even thought about it much. Also my school had a dress code that didn't allow for lots of makeup.

I dabbled in middle school and wore concealer and mascara pretty regularly by the time I was in high school, but not much more than that except on special occasions. I went to a pretty crunchy women's college so I didn't wear much there. Since I've been a working adult, I've gone through phases of wearing makeup but always fall off the wagon, haha. I prefer the extra five minutes of sleep.

DH and I already disagree about when DD can start. I say she can play in middle school and wear it regularly in high school if she wants...he says she can wear it "never."

I think I started curling my eyelashes around 15 or 16. I didn't start wearing any concealer until I was probably 18 though. Even now, I only wear a little bit of concealer, mascara and sometimes blush if I'm looking really blah.

I think if she starts around 16 that would be fine with me, but I hope she doesn't wear a ton of it.

I never did really wear makeup. Even now, the most I use is clear mascara and a bit of lip gloss.

I guess if LO is interested in makeup, she could have it for special occasions when she's little (ie up to 6th grade?). Then I'll have to take her to someone who does makeup. There's a reason I don't do it - I don't know how! (And I cannot be bothered with so much work in the morning).

I was a theatre/dance/figure skating kid, so I'd worn makeup since I was about six for those purposes. So, when the time came that I was allowed to wear makeup in general when I went to highschool, I ONLY knew how to do stage makeup. I'll probably slowly let her start using a little bit around the same age. Maybe just lip gloss and mascara early on, and concealer if she feels self conscious about acne. I always hated when I got pimples in like grade 6/7 and had to go to school with the bright red rudolph nose.
