Hmm, over the summer I think we stopped using them. Late summer.

Our son is 27 months. We've had numerous gates up (even installed two outdoor gates so he could more safely out on our decks). We don't intend to remove them anytime soon even though he can walk up and down the stairs on his own (with supervision). Sometimes we just want to keep him on a particular floor and don't want him wandering off. But he is starting to climb a lot more and although he's climbed into his crib on his own he hasn't really tried to climb out. That's when we're really going to have a problem! You didn't mention how old your LO is b/t/w...
