We switched LO1 around 7 months old because she much preferred sitting up and looking around. LO2 is 8 months old and we still have yet to switch her. It's so much easier to manage two kids when one is contained. Plus if we go to a store there is (typically) only one seat for a kid to sit in, in the cart. When did you switch your LO to the convertible car seat?

I switched D around 4 months because it was just too heavy. I started from birth with M cause I didn't want to deal with it.

5.5 months (spring here). Second kid we will probably milk that seat as long as possible. lol!

@Bao: wear him. Now that he's bigger, he can sit pretty good in the cart.

We switched around nine months. She had more room in the new seat and wasn't as hot as she was in the infant seat (this was in July). Next time I'll probably keep using the infant seat as long as possible.

We switched around 14 months - she still fit up till that point and we don't drive a lot. (Like, we have put just over 10,000km (or 6,200 miles) on our vehicle in 2 years).

Around 7 months. We didn't take the infant seat out of the car anymore because it was too heavy and I figured that the sooner we moved to a convertible seat the more wear she could get out of it.(we got a pretty cheap infant seat, it didn't really seem that comfy)

Around 10 months. Only cause we got it on sale and I was sick of sitting in the office. We were keeping the infant seat in the car often cause it was too heavy.

~6m with DD 1 because she was getting too heavy and big for the infant seat. Hoping DD 2 will last through the winter in the infant seat so she stays warmer.

My 7 mo is still in the infant seat, but I'm so over it. It's really heavy and he's already 28 inches so I can't imagine he'll last a super long time in it. He hates it, so maybe a convertible will be better?

4.5 months because it was getting so heavy and he seemed kinda smooshed - we were taking a longer drive and wanted to give him some more space.

3.5 or 4 months. He was too heavy and is so much happier in the car. I wish we had just gone with the convertible from the beginning. I do see the benefit of keeping a second baby in the seat longer, though.

10 months. Too heavy to lug around anymore.

Just before her first birthday. We could have stayed longer but once we bought the convertible we had nowhere to store it. Yeah she was heavy in the infant seat but a lot of times I just left it in the car, but when she was sleeping I could still lug her up the stairs without waking her. And we had a smaller seat (graco 22).

N got switched around 7 or 8 months and we did the same with E. The bucket seat just got to be too much. I wear E mostly and he doesn't like to be laying down in the bucket seat anyway.

We put the convertible seat in DH's truck at 6 months because we were going on a long road trip and thought he would be more comfortable.
We kept the bucket seat in my car for a few more months then around 9/10 months put the other convertible seat in my car.

@gilmoregirl: gah, G hates, it, too. I had wanted to go convertible from birth, but for some reason, I let myself get talked into the infant seat. I do admit, there are times where it is convenient, but it stays in the car more often than not. I'm very, very over it.

Around 12 months because he was getting too big/heavy. We liked the bucket seat because you could just bring him into the house when he falls asleep.

Right around 10 months for Xander - that was when he got too tall for it. Though we rarely were lugging the bucket seat around at that point - too heavy!!

We moved Joel at 8 months. Leah is 8 months now and still in the bucket, although I usually wear her and put J in the cart.
I'm probably going to buy 2 new forward facing seats after Christmas for J and give L the ones that rear face. -
We switched around 9 months when she surpassed the height restrictions on our infant seat. I thought we'd get more use out of it! (I also had no idea we'd have such a tall child-- 2 years old and in the 99th percentile for height.)

Bump! At 4 months, the infant seat plus LO is heavy! We had some shopping to do at Sam's Club, so DH baby wore her once we got to the store, and we left the stroller at home. She fell asleep in the car before we got to the grocery store, so that's when DH carried her in the infant seat. So.heavy. The doctor said we can switch her to the convertible at any time now that she's 12lbs, just keep her rear facing until 2.

Yeah, LO still fits fine in our infant seat at 6 months old, but I hate lugging it anywhere and we have pretty much stopped using it at all outside the car. I walk to the grocery store so I usually wear her or push her in her stroller, using the under-stroller basket as a shopping cart. I'd love to move up to a convertible now but I want to wait for Black Friday sales to buy one. She'll be 8 months by then. We'll probably just start treating the car seat like it's a convertible (just leave it in the car and buckle/unbuckle her in there).

@dc yoga bee: do you not set the seat in the basket portion of a cart? That helps so I am not really carrying it far.

It's when she's sleeping that's the kicker.@T.H.O.U.: I'm not comfortable putting her on the grocery cart. I'm too scared she'll tip over! And today DH wore her while grocery shopping, which was great. She was sleep when we went to the furniture store, and that's when he had to carry the car seat through the store.

@dc yoga bee: I agree with what @T.H.O.U.: said... put her in the basket portion of the cart. Also, park next to a cart stall. That way you can pull a cart out and just put the seat in there from your car. Plus, when you park next to one on the same side that LO is on, you don't have to worry about someone parking too close to you to make it easy to get LO in and out.

7 months. He was just getting too big and hanging out of it. Plus it was hard for the grandparents to lug around the infant seat.

19 months, but DS was tiny. I stopped taking the infant seat out of the car when he could sit up.

11 months. No issues....will use it as long as possible with LO 2 ad well. When they get heavy, I stop taking it out of the car, but the infant seat is so much easier to fly with, it's worth it to keep it as long as possible.

9 months. We were driving from Philadelphia to Ann Arbor, MI, which was a 10-hour trip. He still fit in his bucket seat, but was pretty cramped, and really didn't like it. No way was I trying to keep him squeezed in that for 10 hours! He was much happier in his convertible!

@LilSprinkles: DD is in the 13th percentile, so she definitely still fits! That extra 12lbs is making a difference though lol.
@littlebug: We have a 12hr trip to see the in-laws this Christmas when she's 7 months old. I worry she will defiantly be too long.

18.5 months. He was definitely too big by the end, but I miss that damn bucket seat so much. Even when he was 16 months old, he would still sometimes sleep in it through entire restaurant meals...it was magic.
