We took her at 18 months. My neighbour is a dentist and I was surprised when he said they recommend LOs start coming at a year. They didn't do too much, just checked her teeth, her bite, and tried to clean them as best as she would allow. He said it was more to get them comfortable and to answer parent Qs. She's been on our dental since birth because it is no extra added expense to add children to our family plan

I took my son at age 3, I dropped the ball on dental care with visits and putting him on insurance, so I was certain he'd have issues, which he hasn't.

He's on our dental plan. It isn't so much for the cleanings, it's for situations where he busts a tooth or needs a cavity filled. That can get pricey.

We are taking her this year. Her pedi said 3 to start. We added her to our insurance cause it was so cheap, why not?

We took her at 1, because we had a reason to go. She had some major staining on her two front teeth from iron drops, but I didn't know what it was and could just see my LOs teeth were super brown and I was concerned. They did a quick cleaning on just those two teeth that solved the problem and we were in and out. LO did great and actually liked it, so since then we have gone 2 times a year. Her 4th visit is in a couple months. They generally just clean teeth, apply fluoride, give her new fun stuff (toothbrushes, kid teeth flossers, stickers) and we're out.

We have a family dental plan, so it's not more expensive to have LO after already adding my husband.

He came with me just recently at 20 months. I asked about some staining he got after being on antibiotics. So they popped him in the chair and took a look. He loved it. He's so weird about things like that. Loves the doctor when they are checking him out too.

I imagine he will go for a cleaning this year some time around 2. He is on DHs insurance.

I think we took him when he was around a year or just before. We don't have dental so we pay OOP, but ACA also covers a portion of his exam!

When she turned 2. My dad is a dentist so he just did a quick check-up. We'll go back every 6 months now.

C is almost 2.5 and we just added her to our dental plan for this year, so I plan to make an appt for her soon. Whenever I can figure out how to bring her and the baby and comfort both of them at the same time... She goes to my dentist with me and they have sat her in the chair and looked at her teeth just as a way to get her comfortable but haven't actually cleaned or anything.

I took LO when he was 15 mos for a check. He will have his first cleaning at 2 years old. We have a family dental plan so he was already added.

We took him the week after he turned 1 and he has been on both our dental plans (employer-paid) since birth. Around here they also have community dental clinics which are free for young children if you don't have insurance.

Right after his third birthday. Just a quick check up. He goes back in March for a cleaning. My health ins and dental ins are bundled so when i added him to my health ins he was automatically added to the dental as well.

Took her to my dad at 21 months. She freaked out and wouldn't let him even look. She's on our dental plan anyways just in case of emergency, but if we are visiting we will have my dad try. It was a few dollars a month to add her. we will probably try again around 2.5. She is great at letting me brush her teeth so I'm not too concerned and my dad said it wasn't a big deal either.

Our dental premium is super cheap so we added him when he turned 1. We started taking him at 18 months and he has gone every 6 months since then. The last appointment at 3.5 years was his first cleaning. Prior to that he refused to sit in the chair so they just took a quick look while he was in my lap. Since he has so much space between his teeth they weren't concerned.

Right around 3 years old. He's on my dental insurance. We just went again this morning!

@catomd00: High five. My dad is a dentist, too, and he's who I saw until I moved 3000 miles away! I wish he could be my son's official dentist, but the distance doesn't work well for that.

Both my dentist(and now his) and then pediatrician recommended we take them at age 3, so that's when we took DS. DD will go this year after her 3rd birthday. Both the kids are on our dental. We put them on for the plan year when they will be turning 3.

He had just turned 3 when he went for the first time, it cost no extra money for him to be on our insurance. We read a few books about going to the dentist before the visit and I think it helped, he did great.
