Our pediatrician recommended that we don't take DS out into public places until he's two months old to avoid illnesses. How old/when did you take your LO out in public places?

We asked our pediatrician at her two week appt., and he said we were fine to take her to places where there wouldn't be a whole lot of people touching/breathing on her. He basically said avoid places like church. Since then we've taken her to target and the grocery store. She's almost 4 weeks.

We took him to brunch and out to dinner at two weeks. If it was winter I would have thought twice, but the weather is warm, no flus around, and we just throw an a+a blanket over the stroller to keep unwanted touching/breathing. No way would I have been able to stay cooped up for 2 months!

I think for the first month we only went on necessary outings like the pharmacy, osteopath, my parents etc although I did take LO to visit my work at just past three weeks.
To be honest though i wasn't really in any state (both emotionally and physically) to be out and about for the first few weeks.

Pretty much right away. I was going stir-crazy sitting at home and getting out really helped beat the baby blues. Starting from about day 7 we tried to do one outing per day, even if it was just to Target or the grocery store.
DD's 14 weeks and hasn't been sick (*knock on wood*) despite me having a nasty cold a week and a half ago.

@maybebaby: That's what I was thinking! I was like 2 months?! I understand his concern, but 2 months being cooped up seems a bit much...

@Alivoo01: Yeah, we are at the 8 week mark now and the idea of having been at home this whole time makes me crazy! Just use common sense--make sure no randos are all up in LOs face, wash LO's hands if someone has touched them and you aren't sure they've washed their hands, etc. For your own mental health, you should definitely get out!

DS was born in flu season and it was pretty bad, so we waited the full 2 months. We even postponed his baptism. We took him in UT sparingly for another month or two, then started more regular outings after that. It wasn't too fun being cooped up. We're in a 1 bedroom apartment! I did still take him on walks early on (bundled up and in the Ergo or Moby), since we didn't run into too many people.

@maybebaby: I just want to go to Target/grocery store and get some stuff so hopefully no random people come up wanting to hold LO!

We took her out right away, but kept her covered and in her infant seat so people wouldn't touch her.
Have you been to the breastfeeding group? It is a great excuse to get out of the house and go somewhere. I started going when she was 8 days old.

Right away just kept her covered up. I will say we didn't go out a ton cause she hated the car seat, but if we caught her in a good mood we got out as much as we could.

Right away. She usually just stayed in her car seat or in the ergo.

@Alivoo01: We basically didn't go out but for pedi appointments or emergencies until he was 3 months and had his first shots. It was the middle of a wicked flu season, icy, and I was totally overwhelmed. Once that time period hit, we started going out daily.

Less than a week I think..we needed some stuff and weren't comfortable separating yet (dh, lo, and I)!

@highwire: I wasn't informed about the breastfeeding group and when I call the LC number at the hospital, I always get voicemail. I always leave a voicemail with my call back number, and have yet to get a call back!! It's rather frustrating...

We took him out for the first time when he was about 5 days old. It was late summer (I probably wouldn't have taken him out so soon in the winter) and we either wore him or had his car seat covered so people weren't getting all up in his face.
The first time we took him out we went to a children's consignment shop and the shopkeeper offered to hold him while we grabbed a few things (um, NO!). But she also let me nurse on a couch in their book nook and kept the store open late so we could finish shopping, lol.

Right away, and I didn't cover her up especially either. I took her to the dog park the morning after she came home in a moby wrap.

I know for sure we went to see a. movie on a weekday matinee when he was 8 days old. Shortly before of after that, we went to a baby store in search of a better bf pillow. We also went out for coffee after a week or so and for short walks. It's hard to say when we did what as that whole time is kind if blurry.

We took him to babies r us at 4 days old. He was completely covered in the stroller/infant seat. He is 5 weeks old, and he's been to the mall, target, and the outlets. I keep him totally covered in the stroller so nobody breathes on him or tries to touch him. We've also been to a few pediatrician appointments.

4 days. We went to lunch and target. We always kept him in the carseat covered. He slept through it all anyway.

At 5 days we went to target but I left him with my husband in the car. At a week we drove an hour to visit family for a birthday. The next week I started going to breast feeding group and the grocery store weekly. At 6 weeks we started going to a mommy & me yoga class. He was born in the fall, but never caught anything. I just couldn't handle staying home all day!

We went out a little the first two months-lunch, friend's houses, walks, BBQ's, etc. at 6 weeks, i took her to the gym every day. if i took the early class, she was the only one there. I avoided places like the mall until after her shots. I was lazy and content to stick around the house and watch tv, clean, and make dinner. I did go to TJ Maxx once and a lady almost touched her! Ack
She was also in special care for a week and I think all that walking and going to the hospital every day made me REAlLY wanna stay home with her lol! Geez, E wasn't even home when you guys all got antsy to get out lol!
