This is an ongoing debate in the family and amongst other moms. I know a big factor is the actual child, but I was wondering at what age you transitioned or plan on transitioning the little one from crib to toddler bed.
I was planning on moving Mavrick at about 20 months. Would love to hear your thoughts.

we're going to keep charlie in his crib as long as possible -- at least 2 1/2 years. he hasn't tried to climb out of his crib yet, which is when a lot of people transition to a bed. i don't want to worry about him wandering around and making mischief... i know he is safe and stuck in his crib. 
we already bought a second crib for baby #2, and charlie will be 22 1/2 months old when she's born.

We went with the keep the baby in a crib as long as possible theory. Transitioned my daughter a few months before her brother took over the nursery when she was about 2.5

I'm due April 1 with baby #2, so we plan on transitioning DD to her "big girl" bed at Christmas; she'll be about 18 months. We're actually skipping the toddler bed altogether and buying her a bunk bed, instead (she'll still have guards on the sides, though, and we won't put the ladder to the top bunk on until she's older). She already transitioned from a crib to a mat at daycare, so I don't think it will be too much of a pain to transition her at home, too.

Although DS rarely slept in his crib because we did co-sleeping, we just bought him his big-boy bed last month. We are trying so hard to transition him from our bed and into his Thomas the train bed. But, after sleeping with us for the last 22 months, it's been a difficult transition. Anyone go through the same thing? I love co-sleeping, but now that we are about to have DS #2, we need to get DS#1 out of our bed. The good thing is that he loves playing on his Thomas bed, and we can often get him sleeping in it for a couple of hours at a time. I guess we just need to take baby steps into this transition.

We transitioned my daughter at 20 months. Needed the crib for baby #2. Skipped the toddler bed and put her into a full size bed with extra-tall/extra-long mesh rails on each side. She's 3 now and still does not get off her bed without asking us if she can. I think my son on the other hand is going to be another story. Trying to get him to sleep through the night in his crib, he's 18 months. Totally my fault because we definitely co-slept too long, but I loved every minute of it.

We're waiting awhile...LO is 2 1/2 and still doesn't climb out of his crib but he just doesn't seem ready. We'll buy the big boy bed probably around his 3rd birthday.

We moved my bonus son when he was 20 months, however he is very tall, just like DH, and even on the lowest rung could have very easily flipped out. He never wandered he would just sit in his bed and cry still until someone came to get him.

What are some signs that the LO is ready? My LO naps on a mat at day care. Does that mean that she is ready at home? I don't feel any rush since we do not have another baby on the way or anything.

Only reason I am planning on switching him at 20 months because of baby 2. We don't have a toddler bed actually it's a full size single bed but yes we got rails.

We changed her crib into a daybed at about 18 months because she kept jumping out. I would rather her not get hurt climbing over the side. She did great with the change, she started going to bed without a fuss right away

@annab53: I purchased them from Baby R Us, it was by especially for baby. I'm pretty sure this is the product http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2552662&prodFindSrc=search but the reviews are throwing me off since they mention the brand Regalo by the description says by BabyRUs which is what Especially for Baby is. The Regalo one is pretty bad, I bought that one first from One Step Ahead and returned it.

@amy: thanks for the link! I'll make sure to check out the Especially for Baby one and avoid Regalo. My son is now 18-months and he's in the 99th percentile for height so he's outgrown his crib. We wanted to buy him a toddler bed but since he's so young, we were afraid he would fall off or worse yet, climb out and start walking around and causing mischief. Hope these work for us!
