My almost 10 week old is not very cuddly. Maybe because he's exclusively breastfeeding, he just wants to eat or kick away from me. With his three grandmothers he lays on them but never on me or his dad peacefully anymore. Is it too early to expect him to like cuddles?

When DD was an infant, she was definitely not into snuggling. If she wasn't nursing, she was way happier in the rock and play or on a play mat.
She's still (14.5 months) super independent, but will snuggle if she's not feeling well or is tired.

I think it's personality more than age. Both my babies have been cuddlers and the toddler still is. My older one liked to comfort nurse while being cuddled forever. The baby won't comfort nurse as much but still wants to be held and cuddled when she finishes.
Frankly I could use a little more space from the big one at the moment!

Yeahthe only cuddles I get are nursing. Sometimes he'll nap on me after nursing in the afternoon, but that's it.

I also think it's more of the personality rather than the age! My daughter is almost 1 and she is just starting to be more cuddly. I love it and savor every millisecond she wants to

Mine has always been snuggly, I agree that I think it's personality. At almost 5 months she now actively puts a hand around you too, so adorable!

I agree that it depends on the baby. DD has been cuddly since she was born. She still naps in my arms once a day and is content to sit in my lap.

My DS was cuddly as a baby, up until 9-10 months. He was walking independently right at 10 months so he just wanted to go and explore. He got more into cuddling once he was a toddler (maybe 18 months)? Now he is a mushy love... all about kisses, hugs, and cuddles.

@DesertDreams88: Nope! My DD hates being held or cuddled. The only time I get anything remotely close to snuggles is during nursing but even then she is usually busy pulling my hair, putting her feet on my shoulder, etc lol
It is totally her personality though,she is fiercely independent and never stops moving...even when she is sleeping she thrashes all over the crib

I was just commenting to my DH last night that our daughter is just plain not cuddly
She had sweetly put her head down on my shoulder because she was tired and I was savoring it hardcore because she never does stuff like that! @mrswin: Ha, my LO does the same stuff while nursing! She also tries to roll over - I'm like girl, my nip is in your mouth. Be careful.

My daughter wasn't interested in cuddles outside of nursing until fairly recently (she's almost 18 months). Some kids just aren't cuddly babies!

@mrswin: This is totally my DD too! I have bruises all over me from her kicking me and pinching me during nursing. No snuggles, ever. She just wants to crawl around and explore. The only time we get even remotely close to cussing is when she is SUPER tired.

DD is 11.5 months and only in the last few weeks she has started coming up to me and DH and giving us big hugs, flopping over and snuggling up against us, etc. It is nearly too delightful to be borne.

@pachamama: 18 months and he's just never been a cuddler. He'll come over and try to get on my lap and then the second he is there he is pushing away as if I am holding him against his will.
But I don't think it's all bad. He didn't need constant holding as a newborn (I would have lost my mind) and I can get a lot of things done while he plays or reads or watch tv on his own.ETA: we are going through the 18month sleep regression. So we are getting a nightly wakeup around 3am a few nights a week. That is the only time he is cuddly. He will curl up in my lap and lay against my chest for hours if I let him. I'm tired since I'm used to full nights of sleep by now...but I also kind of enjoy it

As a baby never. But I would say at around age 3, he started to want to cuddle.

Around 9 months both of my kids started leaning in for snuggles.

My 17 month has never been cuddly
He doesn't mind being held, but he likes to be upright and looking around and pushes away when you try to hug him. Boo!

DS was kicking and pushing away from day 1, haha (I think he was trying in the womb, too.. very active!) He broke free out of the swaddles in the hospital. Hated to be confined. Wouldn't tolerate carriers, wraps, slings..
Now (at 4) he'll cozy up and watch a movie with me. And he loves to give hugs and kisses.
He was just never a real snuggley baby.
