Just wondering.... made the answers based on hormonal impact, not time; and you can select multiple options because they may overlap. I'm looking for the most significant factor
Also, you could comment when it returned vs. when it stabilized.

4.5 months with DS1, 6.5 months with DS2.
I ebf'ed both and they both STTN early on around the same time; just got a lil luckier after DS2 with a longer stretch before AF. both times, there was a big gap between my first two cycles and then returned to normal the third cycle.

About 9months PP for both. I was already back at work and pumping for a while before then, obviously after solids and after longer sleep stretches.

Around 9 months for both kids, after we had started solids and weren't nursing as often.

I said after day weaning but it was really during pump weaning. It came back at around 11.5 months, right after I had dropped one or two of my three sessions (I dropped the last one at 12 months). I was still nursing during the day on weekends at that point but dropped to only morning/night pretty soon after 12 months. LO had also only started sleeping through the night at around 10 months, so that probably had something to do with it too.

No reason. 13 months both times. Both had been sleeping longer stretches for 4-6 months at that time. They had been night weaned for 3 months but were still nursing 4-5 times a day.

No rhyme or reason.
DD1 came back at six months and was regular immediately.
DD2 back at 12 weeks and was irregular enough for me to get pregnant before my next cycle. I ovulated two weeks late.
DD3 back at 11 weeks. Can't say anything on regularity yet.
All three STTN by 12 weeks. Solids by 5.5 months. No pumping. Nursing on demand until 12 months.

Mine came back at 6 weeks postpartum, which is around the time he started sleeping through the night. But i think that period was first actually, by a few days... it seemed so unfair at the time! And he never slept through the night again after 4 months so there was that as well...

Mine was 2 months PP, a couple weeks after going back to work. I had 2 long cycles and then started the mini-pill, and then didn't get it again until I quit pumping at 1 year PP (only nursing 2-3 times a day). Since then it's been regular.

No rhyme or reason, really. I guess MAYBE solids had something to do with it, but I'm sure enough of that to vote. Ha! My period came back when DD was 9 months old, and even though I was still nursing/pumping a ton (I WOH FT), my supply had definitely dropped a little by then and continued dropping after it returned.
DD had been sleeping through the night for months already by that time, too, so that wasn't related for us.
Also, my cycles were really long at first. 2 months, 1.5 months, 6 weeks, then pregnant again.

I'm still waiting at 7 months pp. kiddo started sttn at 6 weeks, I nurse on demand, get to bring her to work with me (part time nanny), and she's been eating solids for 2 months. My mom says she didn't get a period pp until she'd all but weaned all 3 of her kids, so I wonder if I'll have a similar experience.

DD1, came back at 7 weeks and she didn't sttn until 21 months
DD2, came back at 3 months
Both were ebf.

I completely weaned at 9 months and that's when it came back.

I got mine at 7.5mo pp. I did pump at work 3x a day from 10weeks -1 year. I guess it was just dropping enough sessions that did it (probably nursed 8x a day/night before solids and 6x a day after solids) combined with the fact that I pumped 3x a day. I didn't night wean until 15mo so that didn't have anything to do with it lol (she nursed 1x overnight usually)
I did track my cycles and I did not ovulate the first month. They were regular though, no irregular cycles. I started O'ing after the first cycle that but my luteal phase stayed at only 7 or 8 days until I quit pumping at 1 year. After that it stayed around 9-11 days (I still BF) but I did get pregnant when she was 23mo

At 4 months when LO started sleeping more... 5 or 6 hours a night most nights. I was nursing ALL THE TIME still. I was a little surprised, but also super happy that my midwife had warned me that if LO started to sleep more it would happen. I am pretty sure I ovulated first, had all the symptoms two weeks before.

Once I was done pumping and nursing, it came back. It took 14 months though, and I didn't miss it at all!

Hmm your poll actually made me think about these connections more! My period came back around 7 months; lo started daycare at 6 months, so I was pumping more, and we also started solids then, though she didn't eat much. I don't know if that's just coincidence though--I supplemented with formula from 2 months on so I don't know if she actually was consuming less bm

14 months. LO was STTN for 2 months at that point and I dropped day pumping and feeding but was still feeding in the morning and at night.

I was on the mini pill, so no period until I went off that around 13/14 months. 4+ months later and my cycles are still all over the place.
pomelo / 5326 posts
It came back at 4m PP. She was entirely BF but was sleeping 10 hour stretches so maybe that's why it came back then.
nectarine / 2667 posts
I started the mini-pill at 8 weeks pp, so it may have impacted it a bit. I never had a period until I completely weaned at 2 years post-partum. I got an IUD at 8 weeks pp this time & have been having constant spotting, but I'm not counting that as a cycle.

Obnoxiously early at 3 months! Lo wasn't sleeping more than about a 4 hour stretch, I'm not on birth control and she is ebf. I was kinda upset. I really only got a little over a month after the postpartum bleeding stopped all the way. Second cycle was around 36 days later and this one 32. Pretty sure I'll be back to my normal 28 this coming cycle

No reason that I can pinpoint.
with #1 it came back at 8 months pp. she was ebf, waking multiple times a night to nurse, and I was out of the house 20+ hours a week (pumping when I came home).
with #2 it came back at 3. 5 months pp. still multiple night wakings and ebf.
eggplant / 11287 posts
No reason--it came back at 11 weeks post partum the first 2 times and I was nursing on demand around the clock, at least 3-4 times a night.
The third time it came back at 5 months pp, even though I followed the same "schedule" (on demand) as I did with my first 2.
pomegranate / 3658 posts
I think I fall into "no rhyme or reason." DD is 12 months old and I've had two periods, the first one at 9.5 mo (super light spotting, barely counted) and one seven weeks after that at 11.5 mo. So I don't really know that I have a "cycle" yet. I'm still pumping 2x at work and nursing morning and evening, and DD is eating an appropriate amount of solids, and just started to sip some WCM.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
My cycle came back at around 9 months PP for my first and 6.5/7 months PP with my second. With my first it was def. related to solids and no nursing during the day and with my second I am not sure since she was still not eating solids at that point. She was also STTN for two months (3-4.5m) and then didn't for the two months right before my period returned so I am not sure whether that factored into it.
grapefruit / 4291 posts
With my big girl AF returned at around 14 months pp following a stretch of particularly good night sleep (she nursed frequently and at night until at least eighteen months), I had three irregular cycles before becoming pregnant again.
My second baby has just turned one and AF still hasn't returned despite the fact that he has slept through the night and been on solids for at least six months (he's also a very efficient nurser who doesn't hang around when feeding!).

First time, around 15 months when we gave up that one last evening feeding... but as I found out later, I was kind of malnourished so that kept it away longer. This time, still waiting at 8.5 months but I suspect I won't have as long of a break.
persimmon / 1095 posts
9 months, no reason. I was at home with him. He had been into solids for several months and we night weaned when he STTN at 10 weeks.
pomegranate / 3393 posts
21 months pp. (Thank you, period gods! )
I don't know if I can pinpoint the reason, but it was probably overall decrease in nursing, plus night weaning/both of us sleeping longer at night. It took another few months to be what I recognize as my "normal" cycle.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
With LO1, it came back at 11 months. He was nursing about 4-5 times during the day and once overnight.
It hasn't returned yet, this time (LO2 is 8 months). He's still nursing every 3 hours and 2-3 times overnight.

10 freaking weeks after birth for the first and like 6ish weeks after the second.
