Our son started kindergarten this year and apparently picked up the concept of boys versus girls somewhere either in class or in his afterschool program.

Yesterday he told us that the boy (him) was sitting behind the boy (me) and the girl (his sister) was sitting behind the girl (Bee). Fairly innocuous, but he's also been telling us what things boys can't do (wear pink) and what things girls can't do (play with superheroes). We're talking through the issues, but where does this stuff come from?!

When did your kids become aware of gender?
