My LO is 5 months old and seems to want to take 2 really long naps instead of 3 naps a day, but is he too young to go more than 2 hours without napping?

Around 5 months. He was never a long napper, though, would sleep 45 mins max for each nap. Once he dropped the third nap, he started sleeping 60-90 min for each one.

6.5ish months. However, we were going from pretty much no naps to two naps. LO was a terrible napper! She now takes two naps that are each at least an hour long.

8 months old and we still have the occasional 3rd nap. At daycare he always has 2. He's an early riser when he goes without a night waking and sometimes needs a 3rd nap to get to bedtime. But now he can do a 4.5 hr stretch before bedtime...so as long as second nap ends at 2:30 or later, I don't attempt a 3rd nap; sometimes a 3rd catnap happens in the car. He goes to bed at 7.

Right now we're at a little over 6 months and she's all over the place. She was a horrible napper before though so I think she's still trying to figure out her groove. Most days she takes three naps (maybe around 1.5 hours, 40 minutes, then 1.5 hours) but some days it's two really long ones and some days it's four short ones.

6.5 months.
If he's taking 2 long naps and you can't fit in a third, then just stretch the time he's awake between naps by 15-20 minutes. With longer naps, babies can handle being awake longer than 2 hours between naps (usually on 2 naps it's between 2.5-3.5 hours).

I think mine is an exception... She just dropped her 3rd nap at 11 months.

We're at 5 months old and still doing 3 naps a day. He still struggles to stay awake longer than 2 hours or he turns into a cranky pumpkin on us.

8 months for both charlie and olive. at that age 2 hours is the max still that they should be awake, but if he is taking two long naps, maybe you could keep him up longer before bedtime? that works for some babies.

@BabyBoecksMom: DD is still taking 3 naps a day 3-4 times a week. The other days she decides she doesn't need a third nap. We keep her up for 2.5-3 hours at a time and naps usually for only 1 hour. How long does you LO nap for and stay up for? I know DD should be dropping the third nap but she genuinely seems like she needs it.

@littleveesmommy: She gets up at 7, takes 2 hr naps at 9 and 1, and goes to bed at 7.

About 9 months. She still sometimes takes 3 sometimes, like yesterday b/c she slept horribly the night before and woke for the day at 6:30, but usually just 2 now.
