I've heard that because babies sleep on their backs, rolling over is no longer a 4 month Milestone but more like 5 or 6. My son is 4 & a half months but born a little premature and he's not really rolling over yet unassisted
Also, did they roll front to back or back to front?

My answer is different for my two kids
My older LO didn't fully roll back to belly - belly to back until nearly 7 months.
LO2 fully rolled at 5.5 months. -
DD started rolling belly to back at 2 months and back to belly at 3.5 months.

Consistently, maybe 4 months for DS and 6 months for DD, but neither of them ever really rolled around that much.

DS is 6 months and has rolled over maybe three times. He sits unassisted forever though

LO 3 rolled over for the first time at 4 months but it wasn't consistent until she was closer to 5 months.

Both started rolling back to belly first consistently at a little over 4 months.

5 months, but she also had a cast on one leg that went around her hips and waist. She had been trying to roll before the cast. I think it would have been 4 months without it.

Both kids started rolling both ways consistently around 4.5-5 months, although at just over 5 months G still mostly just rolls back to front, although she can go front to back. Unless she feels like rolling around the living room, which she does sometimes

DD started to roll at 4 months. She went back to belly. It just started one day... she was suddenly able to do it.

Front to back was super early. A few days short of 1 month. I was really shocked, especially as she continued to do it.
Back to front consistently was 3 months. Within a few days of starting daycare at 3 months, she had an "I can roll" sign on her crib.

6.5 months. Back to belly first. She was born late. I was beginning to think she would never roll, but now I think she will just do things slowly and wait until she is ready to do them well. I didn't even get an accidental roll before then, just lots of times she would be on her side. She was an excellent back sleeper though.
I think sleep sacks contribute a bit as well to later rolling overall.

I don't remember DD1 exactly, but I think 4 months. DD2 rolled from front to back at 5 months and back to front a few weeks later. She's 6 months now and not consistently rolling- she would rather sit.

For DD it was 4.5 months. Once she started she wouldn't stop! haha

E started to roll both way last around 3 months but didn't do it consistently and easily till more like 5. At 3 mo, when he was on his stomach he just sort of fell over when reaching for something and then would naturally roll to his back.

I honestly don't remember exactly without checking my blog, but it was late (after 6mo). We didn't do tummy time (we follow RIE, which says no putting baby in a position she can't get into on her own), so it was back to from first. It took another good while to get front to back; she got stuck a lot! Now at 11mo she can kind of crawl but she's so efficient at rolling that she's taking forever to really get good at crawling because she never bothers! She was 7 weeks early.

@pachamama: my daughter hated it also and still doesn't love it. She has only recently started sleeping on her tummy for naps and sometimes at night.

I'm thinking him being in the Sleep sack and hating tummy time probably has something to do with it?

@pachamama: potentially! I did tummy time and she had a strong head and neck control very early on, but she was so content on her back and still is so she often just lies there to play, she has no motivation to move really. Now that she can sit she really enjoys just being that way too.
But he'll roll when he's ready.
I really thought mine was never going to.ETA: she could sit unassisted a good month before she ever rolled over. Someone told me it uses the same muscles, but I don't know if that's true or not.

My guy is pretty chubby too, maybe that's what's holding him back. Who knows, I'm not too worried about it yet. Yet!

We took him out of the Halo and have him in a Zippity zip, but he's still not very close to rolling over...

My guy didn't start rolling all the time until about 6 months. He slept in the Baby Merlin Magic Sleepsuit and that kept him on his back. He also hates being on his stomach. He rolls all over the place, now, and can pull himself up to standing in his crib. He sat unassisted well before he was rolling! I wouldn't worry!

I don't remember exactly with my first, but my baby is almost six months now and rolls all over. Sometimes in the last two weeks it went from occasionally, and rolling from back to tummy then whining because she was stuck, to rolling everywhere and pushing up on her arms and legs.
And yet she still hasn't say unassisted for more than a couple seconds and topples over even propped on her arms.

14 weeks with DD2, she hasn't stopped rolling since. Right now its a roll and commando crawl combo to get where she wants to be.

Well, we finally have a roller! My son finally rolled...back to front at 5.5 months! He's gone belly to back a few times too.

My DD was after 6 months, she was not premature, but she was huge! So I think it was hard for her to push that weight around!

My son has rolled a few times before yesterday, but as of yesterday (one day after his 4 month birthday) he's gone pro - every time I put him down on his back he rolls to his tummy immediately. It's frustrating because he doesn't like it and starts to yell, and he can't go from tummy to back.

10 months, after he learned to crawl. He couldn't be bothered. Hit all his other motor milestones in a relatively normal manner.
Ets even then it wasn't exactly a roll, but he got from on his back during diaper change (on the floor), to pulled up standing and 10 ft down the couch with no diaper on

UPDATE: my son finally rolled back to front at 6 months! He had no interest in rolling onto his back lol. Then he started crawling at 8.5 months and now he's all over the place!
