The past few days LO has started crying the second I step out of sight. I'm wondering if he is just being clingy or if he is starting to have separation anxiety?

D is doing this too. I think they're developing object permanence, and have now learned what missing mama is. That's what I read on the internet somewhere.

@rahlyrah: @knittylady: how many months are your LO's?
I'm not sure if what mine is exhibiting is separation anxiety or clingyness. Sometimes she'll cry and cry if I leave the room or leave her with DH while I go pee. She's 5 months. I love that she loves me!! But sometimes mama's gotta leave the room for a minute lol! (She only cried once when I dropped her off at my sister's for "daycare" while I worked. That was a bad day!)

@Cherrybee: I don't think it happens with every baby... LO hasn't had separation anxiety yet and he's nearly 15 months old.

@Cherrybee: He is fine going to other people or if I leave him with my mom (so far!). Ive mostly been noticing it when we are home and I leave the room for a minute. He starts crying the second I am out of his field of vision.

@Cherrybee: I learned in an infant/toddler university class that it's best to start LO at daycare BEFORE separation anxiety begins (if it ever even does!) so that it's not as hard on LO. So he may be just fine if it seems to start at 7 months and he begins daycare at 6.5! And like another poster said, some babies don't ever have this!

@rahlyrah: I seriously just logged on to ask the same thing...R is 7 months too. Today has been the absolute worst. Sigh. Same exact thing, I can leave her with other people but when we're home alone, I need to be in her sight or shes screaming. Momma needs a break!!!!

We had a tiny bit at 9 months, but it hit HARD at 11.5 months, completely out of the blue.

Started around 11-12 months...not bad. Got worse around 16-18 months and and lasted several weeks where she'd cry at bedtime. But she got over it after a few weeks.

About 9.5 months. She is more clingy to me now, and just wants to make sure I'm in her sight most of the time. But I also SAH, so she's always with me.
