I don't mean the fussy periods during the infant stages (<3 months), but meltdowns that resemble tantrums.
Lately, LO will do these angry cries that just puzzle me. She does this angry shake, and looks like she's on the verge of crying. I've noticed this behaviour this past week. She's 8.5 months old.
Is this normal? I thought tantrums started after 12 months! When did your LO start having meltdowns?

Now, at 17 months, she's showing real tantrumy behaviour and it's freaking me out. Like, now I have to really start thinking about my stance on discipline. SIGH.

My dd is 8 months and is just starting similar behavior! It is rough at this age because they are wayy too young to reason with or even understand being corrected! I think its tough also bc they have little means for communication besides screaming! I read somewhere that although it's a rough phase, it's a major sign of a brain development and a desire to communicate, they just haven't figured out how! We are using lots of distracting and redirection lately!

@Rubies: Okay, i couldn't stop laughing at the thread. Sometimes i just want to say, "What's your problem, man?!" I think i've been trained to not let her cry, that it's hard for me to just walk away when she's being a pill. I usually try to give her something else to distract her. She haaaates it when i put her on her back to change her diaper or put her in clothes. Do you know how annoying it is to put her clothes on while she's sitting/standing?
@Mrs.M57: Oh, totally on the distraction/redirection! It's the only thing i can do, right now.
