DH is anxious for him to play legos so he can play too haha so cute.
I was considering some duplos for his first birthday, what age do kids get into them?

LO is 15 months old and only last week did we get her a set of mega blocks. I can't wait until she starts building things!

not until charlie was at least 18 months, and he didn't really get into them until he was 2. we got legos for his first birthday but he didn't play with them for a long time. megabloks are great as first blocks!

We just got the Melissa and Doug block set and she plays with them now mostly by banging them together or whacking over what we have stacked up. It's family fun for everyone!

My daughter has a set that we keep in this pretty little bag. She ADORES them, she drags the bag around, dumps them out, hands me each one and expects me to do something funny with it. She doesn't build things at all, but she's only 14 months. I think that'll come later.

Around 2 or so. Our oldest is obsessed with legos. He just had a lego themed bday party for his 5th birthday actually. He swallowed one on that day. He came into the bathroom as I was getting ready with his lip quivering and announced "I'm going to die!" I told him that he needs to keep them off of the floor because if his little brother swallowed one it could kill him. So when he swallowed one he thought he was a going to die LOL

DH is the same way, we have a girl but he can't wait until she is old enough to play with legos.

@Bao: I'm a girl and legos were my favorite toy throughout most of my childhood!

My mom got DS a Duplo set when he turned one. He was interested in them somewhat. The set had a little window that opened and closed and a dog figure that he loved. He also liked taking apart the pieces if I put them together in a tall stack.
He's 20 months now and he has just figured out how to make them connect and 'build' simple things. I'd say if DH wants to get a set it would be a nice activity he can do while the LO watches and begins to engage in.
Also, we had a hand-me-down set of the larger type Mega blocks and DS never showed interest in them other than throwing.

@glimmersnaps: awesome - thanks!! I think 1 year old is a good age then. They can grow into learning about it.
which set do you have?

DS has been really into duplo's since 18 months. We will still buy them even though he's older because we don't want DD to get ahold of tiny lego's or any younger child if we decide to have one more.
And I played with Legos more than barbies! They were so fun.

His actually has a little dog instead of a cat. It's not too many pieces and the storage box is nice.

We got LO megabloks around his first birthday, but he started to be interested in them around 14 months, and now at 16 months he plays with them most days for at least a little while.

my son started playing with his megablockd at around 2 and with duplos just a few months ago (he's 2.5). he plays with both now and loves them! I think he likes his mega looks more though because he can stack them and make a really tall tower that's taller than him.

Toddler Girl got mega blocks as a Christmas present when she was almost two and has played with them nearly every day since then.
