So when did your LO transition from clawing at books and/or flipping pages at random to letting you read a whole story to them from start to finish?

@softcream: The big problem early on was that Charlie kept trying to eat the books! After a while, that stopped... can't remember when though!

thanks, @mrbee! i was actually just about to bump this.
just spent the evening with my 2 nephews (28 months and 39 months). i read to each of them separately.
while i read to the younger one, he mostly played with his blocks by my side. when i asked if i should continue reading, he'd keep saying yes. so i'm pretty sure he was listening.
when the older one came by, i let him choose a story. but he had lots of energy and wouldn't let me read past the first few words. so instead i let him flip through and make up stories for the pictures. we did this for a few stories before he lost interest.
this is totally normal, right? it just so does not fit the image in my head of reading to kids.

We have been doing great reading along starting around age 3, I think. I just found this link
http://www.trelease-on-reading.com/rah-treasury-intro.html
It's the list of books recommended by The Read-Aloud Handbook.
