My son wasn't really interested in it until around 24 months or so? Now he loves it so I have to limit the time he spends on it. He's allowed to watch one youtube clip a day. He would spend hours on it if he could!

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/23/technology/at-waldorf-school-in-silicon-valley-technology-can-wait.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 Just something to chew on. Whether you start now or later, I do agree that there isn't a "too late" for technology.

We introduced it before 1, but he didn't start to figure out how to use it until maybe 15 months old. We only let him use it to watch shows on the PBS app and occasionally Netflix. It's amazing to see how fast kids catch on to technology. It only took him a few days to master it.

We got one around 16 months and she took to it right away. LO had a phase around 24 months where she rarely went on for a month or so. I'm sure there are lots of people that will warn you about limiting screen time etc and we do too. However, I find it ironic how the most tech-savvy people will be the first to expound on the virtues of their kids being virtually tech free (like the parents in the article).

Lol my lo is four and we just let her start playing games on the ipad but she started getting addicted and didn't want to play with any toys anymore so now she really isn't allowed to use it.

Lo is almost 21 months and she hasn't used one. My niece left her iPad at my moms house during a party and my bil accused someone of stealing it. No..... We don't have thieves as guests at our house. 7 year olds just aren't going to be able to be responsible.
Right now I don't think lo is responsible enough either. She tends to throw things on the ground when she's done. Its too expensive to risk it. Plus I just don't want her on it.... I'd rather her play without technology.

My son used it before 1. By 17 months he could unlock it. By 20 months he got out of guided access. At 24 months we can trust him to watch and play his games.

@Raindrop; no problem! I have some pretty firm ideas about school and education due to my background and penchant for research. Just thought I would share in case it was of interest to anyone.
