If your LOs do or will share a room, when did the baby start sharing a room with the older one? Did you have the second baby in your room longer? How did sleeping go? And was older LO in a bed or still a crib?

We are going to attempt this at the end of the month when the bed arrives. LO 1 (3) will be in a twin bed and LO 2 (turns 2 next week!) will be in a crib! Fingers crossed! If it doesn't work, we might have LO 2 share with LO 3 when she arrives....after 3-4 months in our room.

Well they both have their own rooms, but both share with me for now. Not sure when they will go to their rooms.

They may share eventually...ny only prerequisite would be both of the consistently sleeping through the night.

I didn't want them to share a room until after I weaned #2. So the youngest was 15-16 months, and #1 was 3 years old when they started sharing. The oldest was in a twin bed, and youngest was still in his crib. It worked out because we did staggered bedtimes since #2's bedtime was still a couple hours earlier than #1's.

@anonysquire: they don't wake each other up? And does Z still wake up to nurse during the night now?

@Foodnerd81: they don't wake eachother up, they just alternate waking up. And Zuma was sleeping through the night til Pi came and then started waking like 5 times a night and right now is up maybe 2 times a night.

@anonysquire: you must be so tired! I hope they at least nap at the same time so you can too! But great that they don't wake each other up at least.

@Foodnerd81: not tired, just happy They usually sleep an hour or 2 at the same time during the day so I'll sleep then if I'm tired.

we put them together when LO#2 began sleeping reliably 11hrs through. he was around 5 months, and LO#1 was about 21 months at the time. we did two cribs for a while, and then switched to a toddler bed and crib when LO#1 was about 27 months or so. it works great! first week was rough for falling asleep, but after that smooth sailing.

We put our kids together when LO2 was 3 months and LO1 was 2.5 years. We actually had LO1 in our bedroom longer than LO2 - it basically got to a point where us adults didn't have any space to do anything because LO2 was in our room. In preparation for this, we got LO1 a toddler bed and kept the crib for LO2 (but then raised the crib a few levels).
There have been a few bumps in the road, but so far, it's been good. We don't really have any other options, but I think it can only get better once LO2 starts SSTN.

@lemong: just wondering, how often was LO #2 waking up in the night when they started sharing a room? would LO #1 wake up? we're planning on keeping LO #2 in our room until he's sleeping enough to make sharing a room with LO #1 possible, but not sure if i have to wait for LO #2 to STTN or if we can do it sooner.

@edelweiss: we made the switch when LO2 started going to bed around 7/7:30. He used to go to bed later, but once he had the early bedtime, we made the switch. At that point (and now), he would be up at least twice to nurse. LO1 would sometimes wake up a little bit when I go in, but for the most part, she'd go right back to sleep. It's incredible what each of them will sleep through - both have slept through the other one's cries. I do run a white noise machine though.
There are times when LO2's crying wakes up LO1 or vice versa, but most of the time it's pretty manageable. LO1 loves having her brother in the same room - she always tells me "I sleep in the same room as my baby!"

@lemong: good to know, thanks! that's so cute that LO1 likes sharing a room with her baby brother!

@lemong: thanks for the info! we had LO1 in our room for 5 months and expecting something similar for LO2. we have the rooms for LO2 to have it's own room, but we're really enjoying having a guest room and not sure if we can give it up!
