This house we're in was supposed to be a 5 year plan, but now that we're past 5 years we'll likely be in here for another 5 then buy our final home. I don't want to move a lot.

I'm hopefully buying it TODAY we've made our best and final offer and they have to respond by this evening. There are some finishings we'll change along the way but it's our dream neighborhood and a size we could never outgrow so I'm calling it our dream home.

not for awhile probably, 10 years? We are also living in our very first home and it's also an investment property (2-family). our plan is to live here for probably another 2 years max, rent out both units, and then buy another home- but probably not our "forever" home. We are open to buying another investment property next time as well.

@pui: haha probably never! it seems pretty impossible that we could own a big enough space (3br, 1000sf w/storage) close to the city with parking and without condo fees.
We'll likely move before J starts school (so within the next 3 years) a bit out from where we are now and hopefully sell when he's in college/moved out.

maybe like @looch, when we retire and rent a small apartment, just the two of us, no vehicles.

We're building ours right now

By some miracle, we recently bought a really nice home that would normally be way out of our budget. It's not in the area I'd like to be in, but for the house, I can live that. I asked DH the other day if he'd consider moving back East of town to keep us more centralized and he said yes! So we'll see.

In the meantime, I don't foresee us moving again for another 10 years probably, and we'll do lil renos/updates in this house to make it more us!

I have no clue. I can see us staying in our house for awhile. But it isn't our dream house. I am not sure we will ever be able to afford our dream house.

While it's not the dream, I've been in my forever home since 2011 (when I was 31).

Probably about 10 years. We are currently remodeling our home to be somewhere we can be comfortable until then. Eventually we want to have a few acres, but right now we live within walking distance to our downtown and we dont want to give up our location just yet.

I doubt we will ever have our dream home. Oh well. I'm just glad to have a home! & a nice one at that, even if it isn't what I dreamed of

Hmm not sure. I could live here forever but need a bigger house. We could add on or demolish and start over probably. We will see.

We don't necessarily have a dream home since we're serial renovators, but definitely a dream neighborhood. We will move once we find a home in the right neighborhood that needs lots of work but is big enough to stay in. (Only way we can afford that neighborhood has been to flip several houses and live cheaply). DH watches foreclosures and estate sales like it's his job.

Who knows? We're contemplating a move to a condo or another townhouse with more space now - we want to stay in our neighbourhood, and if we wanted to buy a detached house (not our dream house), it would be 1.5 million plus (1 million might get us a tiny bungalow meant to be torn down).

I'm not sure. We love our current house and could stay here forever. But we would also like a larger lot so we can have a workshop. It'll be another 5 years or so before we think of looking. I'm also willing to wait to sell at the top of the market too. Our market last peaked in 2007 and it's going to peak again very soon. So it could be another 7-10 years before the next so I'm willing to wait.

I can't afford my dream home. If I had my way I would be out of this house right now, it's just not big enough for us anymore. However, we can't afford to move right now. ugh.

There are a lot of different types of houses that I can say are my dream house. But they are all pretty far outside the scope of reality.

I don't really have a concept of a "forever home." I like to move around and change houses. Our house right now was purchased with the thought that we would be in it for 5-8 years. We've lived there for 2.5 and I really like living there but I always have my eye out for new houses that go on the market.

For me, the dream was just to own a home. We are in the process of closing on a home that was initially out of our price range (yay for raises & freelance gigs!) so while it's not a dream home or a forever home, I am super excited & feel like we are very lucky!

We expected this house to be our 5-7 year house, and we've almost been here for 6 years. It will probably be at least another 1-2. If we decide to stick with just one kid, we may just stay here.

@anonysquire: I thought you had a huge house?!

I don't really know, I don't think we'll have a "forever home". I love to move, redecorate, change my scenery. We've lived in this house for 2 years and I wouldn't mind selling it already!
