When did you/will you move in to your "dream home"?

    We don't have our dream home, but we're in our dream neighborhood, so we'll just continue to renovate as needed and make this house last as long as we can!

    Probably never. But we're in our forever home and that's good enough!! We moved in 5 years ago!

    Hopefully in ~3 years when DH finishes his residency/fellowship and gets a job! We love our current home and neighborhood and will likely look for something in this area if we are fortunate enough to be able to stay here!

    I don't know if we'll ever be able to afford our dream home in our dream neighborhood! Right now they are around $2.5M+ so unless we win the lottery, we're probably not moving there

    We just closed on our dream home today! Well, it doesn't have *everything*, but it's as close as we'll get

    @Leialou: I'm so scared that we overpaid for the house because we bought at the peak...

    Hopefully build our dream home in 2016! Early 2016 my DH will either graduate or fail the program he is on at work. I know he will pass, and once he does we will start building hopefully! We might buy a lot in the mean time.

    @BabyBoecksMom: the good thing about where we live is even when the market drops it doesn't tank and it always comes back. I can send you some historical data on your new neighborhood to help put your mind at ease.

    It's going to be awhile before we even own a house. Whether its our dream house or not, I have no idea. We both know what we want in our "forever" home but our area is so expensive its going to be at least 5 years, if not more before we can get a dream home. It makes me sad because I am already 31 and feel like we should be closer to achieving it.

    It'll probably be in a few years. It won't be a dream home, more like our forever home in a great neighborhood.

    Dream home?? Probably never,

    But we bought our Forever Home about 3 years ago (in our mid thirties) and have been steadily renovating - it was the ugly, smelly house on the block!

    We will never have our dream home, but we have our forever home and that's like a dream come true.

    I don't really believe in dream homes/forever homes. But for a dream, I think we would also want an apt in the city and a beach house somewhere. So ditto @looch:

    I feel so behind, I just want a home to call my own right now! I'll be 31 next month and we're still renting. Our plan was to buy next summer when he gets back from his deployment, but I'm not sure where we'll be at then.

    We've both owned, and divorce caused a sale for each of us. Starting over in your mid-twenties/early 30's sucks

    It's hard to say. We will move if DH ever changes his job, but would never leave this home, so long as we are here. Our house is pretty much my dream home, minus the distance from our families.

    I wish I could say within a year. However, I feel as though it will be sometime in the next 5 years. Way longer than I would have like. We are still in our first home, and had only planned being here for a few years...about 5.

    Next month! There's a couple things I had to compromise on so it's not technically my dream home, but I still love it and we intend for it to be our forever home.

    Whenever I get my promotion we're putting our house up for sale and buying my dad's house. So about 2 years. It'll be our dream/forever home!

    We moved into our forever home in 2010 - although it needs a ton of work before I can call it a dream home. However, it is in my dream neighborhood

    No clue. Since we have no idea where we'll be living in the next 1-2 years, even buying a home is outside reality!

    We're moving to our new home in about 6 weeks! It's a great space, big enough to grow and in a great district.

    If we stay in our current area, we will be moving to a big family sized McMansion type house in the next 5 years. I don't really want to, but DH does badly... he was looking at a 6 bedroom the other day!

    I am more in line with "a house in which to live our dreams" rather than a "dream house"... so we'll see. We currently have a 3 bedroom I love but with baby #2 coming we are worried about getting in a better school district, etc.

    @StbHisMrs: similar to you, 32 and still renting. Never owned myself, but DH did with his ex.

    We are in our forever home. We bought it last year, I was 36, dh 32. We considered the starter home route but we got a steal on this house bc it was a short sale. We plan to stay here until retirement.

    Never? We can't afford our dream home unless we win the lottery. We don't have any millions laying around. We do plan on buying in our neighborhood in a few years but a coop or condo is really not the dream, it's the reality.

    @MamaMoose: good luck!

    @BabyBoecksMom: yay! Congrats!

    Who knows when we will get the dream/forever home. We just found out we will be in our current city until 2017, and we definitely won't be buying here. And we have no idea where we are going after that!

    Probably never! That's alright with me. I actually like renting for now with LOs.

    I think our house now is pretty much our dream house... I don't think we can ever afford much more, and we did do almost everything we wanted to with it, so it'd be last year, 2013.

    We are hoping to build our forever home in the next 5 years, if that doesn't happen then we will move and hopefully build in the next 10.
