My niece and nephew got Acer tablets for Christmas this year and the love them. DD1 (3) also loves our iPads. Kicking around getting her a cheap tablet for her birthday this year, but it feels so young!

Going to hold off as long as possible. He can use our iPad anytime but wanna hold off on getting personal electronics for as long as possible since it'll never end!

Once it's required for school, I guess? I don't even want to get one of Leap Pad kid tablets.

Before we got custody (so age 2). I just didn't want him fooling around on my stuff so he has his own. We got him a kindle fire.

I'm going to get a new iPad mini sometime in the next few months for work and I'm going to keep my old iPad and get it a child case just for T to play apps on. He's a little too young right now but it won't be long.

My mil bought LO an iPad for her first birthday. She is only allowed to use it when traveling, so there haven't been any issues yet. It is handy!

Maybe next Christmas? And it'll be a LeapPad, not a tablet. She'll be 3.5

Nevah! Well, maybe not never, but it's not in our plans. I don't even have one for myself. I'll get them for them if it's required by school, which I don't see happening any time soon.

Probably elementary school, maybe later. I don't see any need for them to have their own younger than that.

No plans to. I have some kid apps on my phone that we use to keep LO entertained when we really have to (planes, occasionally restaurants). We only have one kid so far though... I guess it could change with more.

LO is 3.5 and we got a cheapy tablet for Christmas because I snagged it for a third of the normal price. We had an iPad he previously used, but doesn't work so well because of its age. With both devices he had the same rules, it wasn't a free for all. And let's be honest, sometimes him using a tablet is just as nice for his as it is for us.

Each DD has had an "old" iPad ready for them whenever they showed interest. Both have known how to work them since 6 months old. I'll be the first to admit it's ridiculous, but DH writes tech reviews and gets each new version.

I don't have a tablet (and neither does DH), thought we'd allowed LO to play on our phones a tiny bit. We bought him a Kindle (the kids' Amazon one), at 2, and we let him use it every couple of days, or when I'm cooking something that's dangerous for him to be around. I'll also use it when I want to shower. We don't have a TV upstairs (where we spend most of our time), so for quick things most parents use a TV for, I usually use the Kindle.

Zuma has one. The only apps she actually likes is a virtual piano and a drawing app. I'm sure it will come in handy more for errands and trips when she's a little older.

@meganmp: I'm with you. Never unless I have to for some reason. I don't have one either.

LO uses our 1st gen iPad. He has limited times when he can use it for watching shows on PBS Kids and playing education games.

Is a Kindle a tablet?
If so, around age 4 for DS and 3 for DD
Great for car trips and watching movies
