@Mrs. Blue: we had luck letting them stand with hands against the wall, especially if it's an interesting texture like brick! Standing during diaper changes still works with Olive today!!

They are still terrible at our house at 14 months. I kind of wish I had bought one of these bad boys:

Still bad at 12.5 months. I use the iPad and Bubble Guppies to distract when she really doesn't want a change.

Still a challenge at 15 months.

I was hoping for good news when I opened this thread : (. I do standing most of the time. If only I could master putting in on when he's on all fours... I wrote a blog post about it titled "professional animal wrangler" - that's seriously what it feels like.

@Mrs. Blue: I do standing for the putting on part, not getting off. I can usually get him to stay put for at least 1 wipe. I try to get his legs bent as quick as possible to keep him on his back. (But as soon as I pull wipes out, he's off rolling to explore the wipes container...)

Haha they only get worse in a different way. Now it's the negotiating and distracting at 2.5. And on certain desperate days, I still need wrestling moves.

I give him toys that he only gets during diaper changes and that works most of the time. Usually gives me at least 30 seconds before he starts wiggling around, then I just quickly give him a different toy and that gives me a little more time. A few times I've made unique noises like squeaks or loud animal sounds just to get his attention and he'll stop and stare at me like I'm nuts and that gives me another 10 seconds or so. Hey, whatever works! Just keep trying new things. That's what I do.

I'm thinking early potty training because I can't deal with this. My sanity is wearing thin.

The only time I haven't had to physically restrain my 8 month old with my elbow is when DH is there to literally jump up and down and make funny faces at her to distract her while I slip it on.

@lovehoneybee: It can be the most frustrating part of my day, for sure. I try to hold him down with my legs but he is like Houdini and can slip right back out in seconds. Poopy diapers usually require letting him hold the remote or a phone if I want any chance of not having his hands covered as well. Yuck.

still terrible at 18mo over here! i find having a legit changing table helps just because there is only so far he can go. i almost always give him his binky beforehand and lately he's somewhat distracted/entertained if i smell his feet in a really silly way and tel l him how stinky they are (such a BOY!!) or if we play peek a boo with a burp cloth.

@Mrs. Blue: Sesame Street on my phone has been helpful. We're at an age where LO needs us to understand him. So, I ask him questions like are you thirsty, are you hungry, are you sleepy, do you like the snow you see out of the window? Basically, doing a dialogue or a narration of what we're doing helps. It takes a few techniques to get through them.

Mine had a rough phase when they were crawlers and learning to walk. Now at 18 months, it's really not bad 99% of the time. It's been a lot better for a few months, but I don't remember exactly when. I think there is hope

I am right there with you. I wish I knew. I had full on crying yesterday and this morning. I'm sitting there thinking, "I'm actually trying to help you!"

Usually still bad here at 15 months...I do fine that warning him it's going to happen helps. Like, i'll say "First we're going to change your diaper, and then we're going to read a book" and I'll say that a few times. He seems to get that if he sits still thru a diaper change he gets something fun afterwards. This only started working recently though and only works sometimes.

Letting him play with my phone works sometimes too, although sometimes he gets mad and throws it.

Singing a song about how stinky his poop is helps sometimes too, lol. Especially if I make exaggerated faces and say "P U! So stinky!" and wave my hand in front of my face.

20 months and worse than ever. I do pee changes while he is standing up and poop diapers....he gets to play on my iPhone. Yep. Only way he will lay still.

Mine (14 months) loves to play with empty medicine bottles during diaper changes. She has one in each hand and it works a treat.

@Mrs. Blue: I think the Tylenol dropper makes them extra tantalising, lol!
