Other than "juice" and "wa-wa" (water), LO can't tell me what she wants by name. She calls yogurt 'ger' but never can tell me she wants it. Other foods that she loves, she will say it when she sees it but not if she wants it.
I'm just wondering when toddlers start asking for things by name? (It would make my life SO much easier!)

I think around 16 months DS started asking for apples ("ah-puh-shi"), and I think a little earlier than that, he asked for milk, but that's about it so far at almost 18 months... he is not very verbal so far, though.

It was at 15 months for us... Huge word explosion at that stage. She would say words spontaneously, but not on command, actually. Language development has huge ranges for each individual toddler, so it just depends. My first didn't do it til around 2 yo... she did have a speech delay though.

I'm waiting for this right now. She's a little over 1 year now and is constantly pointing/gesturing at things and saying "this" but half the time I can't figure out what she's pointing at or wanting and it drives us both bonkers :T

LO is 19 months and just this month has started to be more verbal with her wants. She used to just point and say "that".

My LO is 22 months and he's been talking sooo much lately! He asks for cheese, apples, milk, cookies, chips, chicken, all kinds of stuff. Basically he's learned to ask for all the things he likes eating the most lol.

Not only does my 19 month old not ask for things by name yet, but every morning after she finishes her milk she asks for "wawa" water all excited and then when I give it to her she says no. So shell ask for something she doesn't want. Every day. It's our routine. But I'm not going to not give her water..... What if she really wants it one day?
