I usually try and go to work but then leave early if I feel miserable.

I have a super long commute, so if I have a bad headache or head cold and wouldn't be able to concentrate while driving, I call out. I also call out any time I may have something that is contagious. I consider that common courtesy and get beyond ticked when someone comes into the office coughing and snotting over everything.

My job is flexible about working from home when you are sick, so if I feel like I could be contagious or just feel totally crappy ill work from home. I suck about leaving early- like ill intend to all day because if the headache or whatever, then I don't actualy leave until 5 anyway.

@MrsTiz: Do you have to use benefit time and/or get points if you leave? If not I would totally leave today! At my job if you don't have benefit time left (for me it is always unpaid anyway so not really a benefit lol) you get 1 point instead of 2 if you work 51% of your shift. If I know I am going to be out more than one day it's better to get the 2 points because it counts as same occurrence for consecutive days.

@MrsTiz: Same here, but we are only allowed so much time off and then get points after that which can result in termination if you have too many. I know we both have unpaid mat leaves too.

I'm glad you are feeling better! Maybe you just needed to feed that baby boy!

I will call in if I'm throwing up. Otherwise I go to work.

It is hard to be out when I'm sick because I'm a teacher. I really try to tough it out because a lot of times it is more stress to plan for someone else to be there than to just go myself. I also can't show up and decide to leave because I would never get a sub. I try to tough it out for a cold, but definitely stay home if I have a stomach bug. I hope you feel better!

I have to be very sick to skip work... like either a horrible cold where I just plain can't function because I'm blowing my nose so much or lost my voice. Or I have to be puking.

I have to be very sick to stay home the entire day. I was out for a few days when I had bronchitis last Fall. Pregnant + a particularly bad case of bronchitis = misery. Pretty sure that was the last time.

Only if i have a migraine (and I'll come in as soon as I feel better) or a stomach issue.
