I usually hear this term referring to moms of newborns, but I definitely still consider myself a new mom at 7+ months pp!
What do you think?

I still used the "We just had a baby" excuse until P was like 10 months! In all seriousness I was still trying to get my barrings until then so I felt justified! lol

I'd say a year if you're a first time mom. There's just so much that goes on during that year & if you're a first time mom it can all be so overwhelming!
For 2+ I'd say 6 months ish

Not sure, but once you have a second kid... you're no longer a new parent!!

Agree with @mrbee. I stopped being a new mom when Em was born even though my eldest is just 15 months.

@mrbee: What if you 2nd came like 8 years after your first?... lol

@mrbee: I def agree about that!
@matador84: I guess I can see what you mean about the newness wearing off, but things keep changing so quickly I always feel new at the stage I'm in especially given that C is a baby not yet a kid..

Hmmm. Good question!! I have no idea. Maybe after a year?

I don't know...I feel like a new mom still. I feel like a pro...but I do feel like this 6m is SUCH A SMALL fraction of my life. So, I feel like a new mom.
I say, when my son is 2yrs old, i'll know longer be a new mom. But, for me, i'll probably have a 2nd child before my babe is 2yrs old, so that'd change things for me because I think having 2 makes you not new anymore.

i agree with mr. bee... definitely not a new mom once you have your second.

I agree with @mrbee as well. I'm assuming when you have your second!

@Mrs. High Heels: @Running Elley: @mrskc: @mrbee: @TurtleDoves: Ok, so, new mom = ftm then? What about those who are one and done? A year?

@googly-eyes: hmm, that's a good point... i guess that really differs from person to person, but i would say i stopped feeling like a new mom once my LO started walking and became more like a toddler... and she didn't start walking until she was 14-months.
i think i stopped feeling like a new mom somewhere in the 14-18 month range!... definitely by 2 years.

I think by 1 year and definitely by the time you have your 2nd although I am still doing dumb things the 2nd time around. You forget a lot!

I'd say somewhere around 9-12mo you stop being a new mom. DD being 2yo, I definitely no longer consider myself one.

@googly-eyes: ahhh! I dooont know! I give up. I think I want people to keep treating me like a new mom because they keep cooking for me and offering free babysitting

I would think after the first year or when you have your second. My LO just turned 1 and I don't consider myself a "new mom" anymore.

I think you're always a "new" mom, esp. because your kids keep changing and present you with different challenges at all ages.
You might be more experienced, I think, after you have a second child in the sense that you know what's coming, but each kid can be sooo different!

I think it depends on how you feel as a mom, so it's different for everyone.
