When LO was a baby, she found her thumb and used it to self-soothe to sleep. Without fail, she would suck her thumb for a few seconds and then conk out to sleep. When she's upset/scared she sucks her thumb to calm her down. All of this was fine by me. Now, at 14 months of age, LO walks around the house playing and toddling around but is now starting to constantly suck her thumb. When I try to take it out, she pops it back in.

This is one of my fears! At least with a pacifier, you can take it away, but you can't take a thumb away! I sucked my thumb through kindergarten before I finally kicked the habit, but my best friend sucked hers until she was TWELVE and it totally messed up her teeth!
I hope you're able to break this habit from your LO before it becomes a problem. I don't think it's a problem now, but you probably want to try to break it in the next year or so if possible so it doesn't become a problem.
I'd love to hear advice on this issue too!

My LO is a thumbsucker as well. At 9 months, I'm not super worried because she could still grow out of it, but eventually we'll have to deal with it.
So many of my friends have "come out" as thumbsuckers when they've seen my daughter sucking her thumb! And unfortunately they have all told me the different ways their parents tried to break the habit - and how nothing worked! I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I don't think it's an issue until their adult teeth come in? My little sister sucked her fingers and the dentist didn't get serious about it until she was 7 or 8.

I'm starting to worry at 9 months! She is addicted to her thumbs...if I take one out she shoves her other thumb into her mouth!

LO only 3 months old and has started sucking her thumb. She's always trying to put her hands in her mouth, even as a NB but only recently found her thumbs. Part of me is super happy she's self soothing, but I'm also worried about breaking the habit.

I sucked mine until I was about 12 too. No damage to teeth though

I don't really know, but LO is 15 months and sucks his thumb, usually just before sleeping or if he gets hurt. Last month though he was with it non-stop...turns out he was getting his first molar. So maybe the same thing? He did stop once it broke through the gums.
