At what age do kids start going to drop off parties where the parents of the birthday kid are there but the parents of the kids attending the parties go home? Is that in first grade?
I know under 5 is too soon. Where is the line drawn?

I noticed for my niece's 5th birthday, my SIL offered the parents the choice to drop off or stay, and about half chose to drop off.

They started last year, my son was turning 5.
I am not comfortable with it, to be honest, especially when they're at places that are not at home. I can't "relax" when my son is there and I am not, I am always afraid he's going to get hurt and I will need to go and get him, so I hang around.

I invited parents to stay or go at LO's five year old party. It was in a room with a big glass window that connected to a big retail shop. All parents left except one mom whom I only knew through our children's friendship.

@808love: I did the same thing at DS's 5th party. The parents who stayed were all already our friends.
It seems like drop off parties started at 5.

I'm glad to hear this starts at 5. I'm tired of feeding everyone's parents and siblings!

@lamariniere: My situation seems a bit opposite. My friends left (I assumed bc they trusted me!) and the one I didn't know too well stayed.
