Flying home with my 9.5 month old tomorrow. Alone. I'll have one carry-on suitcase (technically it shouldn't be allowed. i know, i'm bad) and a diaper bag. I am debating not bothering to be one of the first to board, and letting LO play and move around and board at the very last minute.
What do you do when traveling? Do you board first or wait until the very end?

I suppose if it's just you it wouldn't really matter 
when I was flying it was DH, me and the baby. We always did priority boarding because if we waited there would be no two seats next to each other left.

Priority for sure! It's not easy to get settled in with a baby on a full flight!

I board first as well. I like to get LO settled before everyone else gets on board; however, she is not yet crawling so it doesn't make a huge difference for us. Were she mobile, I might consider boarding last!

@caffeinated: not at all. she was SO easy to travel with when she was younger and not walking. just take things for her to play with.

We always get on as early as possible! We take out the tissues, snacks sippy cup, iPhone, and other necessities and stuff them in seat back and let the LOs scope out the surroundings. Plus if you board later sometime the overhead gets stuffed...

If it's assigned seating and what I'm boarding with can fit under the seat in front of me (I'm not in a rush to get good overhead space)... which are both usually the case when I travel alone... I like to board last. Why be on a plane with a baby for longer than I have to?

Our last two flights they didn't allow early boarding with infants! I think it was United Airlines. We watched one mom with a stroller try and she was turned away.

Re: @lemonglong's experience... I was going to say this too... Early boarding with kids is getting more and more rare these days. Depends on the airline... But yes, another reason to just wait til the end if that's the case. It's not fun standing in line waiting to board... Might as well sit at the gate for a bit longer til most people are already settled.

@LemonLong: @SAHM0811: That's so strange that they don't have priority boarding for parents with children! I guess i've only flown on Canadian airlines the last couple of years (i have major beef with Delta and UA) and they always offer it for those with kids.

When I flew United with my baby, they said that I could bring my carry-on, personal item AND a diaper bag.

@sunny: Oh, it's slightly bigger than the allowed size. (My beef with UA is more to do with their incompetent workers who almost always had DH and i miss our flights out of the Sacramento airport!) I know i can bring on quite a bit with LO, but it's nice to check everything in and board with minimal items.

We board first since it takes a while to get the kids situated. And now with the constant booked flights and being charged for checkin bags, the overhead storage gets filled up so quickly. It's better to get there first to claim some space near your seat.

As a family we also boarded last especially with assigned seats.
The worst thing that could happen is that there wouldn't be room for your carry on bag and they would have to gate check it. At the door to the plane you leave it an they put it underneath with the rest of the luggage. After the flight you wait at the plane to get it back. First to board means your are guaranteed room for your luggage but you have to entertain baby in the seat for an extra 30 minutes.

I board first. That way there are less people in the plane so it is easier to get things settled and move around.

I prefer first. I hate being last because everyone is loitering the aisles, rummaging their carry-ons and putting away their jackets. I'll suck waiting forever for the guy that's oblivious of people behind him and taking his sweet time sorting his bag (and there's always at least one of them). Lol, I already have boarding rage and we haven't even left for the airport yet!
