For me personally, when it's no longer essential to being able to go places. Which was like six months for my kids - they were both doing well with solids by then and could wait until we were not in public. And they'd also get distracted so I was constantly afraid I'll end up flashing people. But that's just me, I don't care what others do

I think we stopped nursing in public around 18 months. I don't think there's anything wrong with nursing a 2/3/4 year old in private or public, but it started making me feel self conscious. If I lived somewhere where breastfeeding toddlers was more common I would have done it longer.
I just started asking him to wait until we got home, and he pretty quickly understood. I offered him a straw cup of cow milk or a pouch instead.
We're finally down to nursing twice a day at 32 months. I'm ready to be done.
