What is your reaction?
Right now, it is irrationally pissing me off. I'm blaming PP hormones. No one has said she looks like me. Everyone says she looks like my husband. I think she has his forehead but my lips and nose.

It use to bother me but whatever, its true....both kids favor DH!
However DD does have my hazel eyes and my curly hair so she is starting to look more like me

Sometimes it bothers me and other times it doesn't. I honestly don't see a lot of either of us in him. He is a nice mix of the two of us.
Everyone and their damn dog says he looks like DH. Or, even worse, my outcastes BIL who no one talks to..... Thanks...

My LO looked just like DH when she was a newborn; but there are some very cool articles/studies about the biological reasons why newborn babies (humans and other animals) tend to favor the father, so I thought it was kind of neat.
LO's looks have changed so much; now everyone says she is my twin!!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@yoursilverlining: I imagine it's got something to do with the father knowing the baby is his offspring?
pomegranate / 3643 posts
It totally bothered me early on. I think part of it was it all came from DH's side of the family, and my family wasn't around to say "oh he has our nose!" or anything like that. I do think it is a PP hormone thing.
honeydew / 7586 posts
I usually say, "All of the work, none of the credit." LO was a mini-DH when he was itty bitty but has developed some of my features over time.
cherry / 197 posts
It used to drive me absolutely crazy, because usually it came from DH's family. But as she's gotten older (she's almost 2) her features have changed quite a bit and she looks more like my side of the family than DH. DH's family still says that she looks so much like him, but I just ignore them now

It really used to piss me off! I mean, *I'm* the one that carried her for 9 months, can't someone lie to me and say she looks like me?? (It especially used to aggravate when my MIL would say it- he he) But now, I can see she really does look like him so I'm not so bothered.
We had the 4d ultrasound for DD2 and she looks just like DD1, so I'm already preparing myself for the comments this time.

@rahlyrah: love that comment!
@yoursilverlining: curios as to the biological reasons

It doesn't really bother me unless it's my MIL making comments. I don't know why hers bother me. Now she looks pretty much exactly like I did at her age, and it's undeniable.
pineapple / 12793 posts
I always respond with "it's a good thing he's gorgeous!"
It bugs me, but she does favor him and I love how he looks. I can see bits of me more and more these days, especially when looking at my baby pictures.

It really didn't bother me at all. If it were my MIL saying it multiple times, then I might have gotten annoyed, but she doesn't have so say much to annoy me

It didn't really bother me. As they grow up I can tell that they are a good mix of both of us.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
I get feeling bad about it. It made me a little sad in the beginning. I just wanted people to see a little bit of me in her but no one did. It doesn't bother me now because it's true! As she gets older though, I see myself more!

I can't tell, but everyone and their mom says DS looks like his daddy, but with my eyes. Then there's the random here and there that he looks like me. Who knows!
My aunt and uncle did tell me aside one day that maybe he looks like his daddy because both of their faces are round and they're both chubby. So maybe when he lengthens out and is more mature, he'll look more like me. hahahahahahaahahahaha

It doesn't bother me. I think bc my first reaction when I saw her after she was born was 'I just gave birth to a mini-DH'.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I just have to agree- she looks so much like Dh, especially when he was a baby. A few kind people have said she looks like me and I say thank you, since she's gorgeous
watermelon / 14206 posts
LO sin't here, yet, so this isn't happening, yet, but I know that if LO does come out looking like him, and people say it all the time, DH will be insanely proud, which would probably make me feel pretty happy for him.
DS is only mine and looks like me, so I feel like I *have* my mini-me and I'm excited for DH to have his.
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
LO looked just like DH when she was a newborn. he was a cute kid so I was ok with it. now she still looks like him in profile but her hair and eyes make her look just like me (especially me at the same age) and many more people will comment that she looks like me.
but I will admit I still don't like it when people say she looks just like DH!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
I get this comment more than any other comment about their looks. "They're mini-[DH]s" "They look just like [DH]." "They're all [DH]" For a while it drove me crazy, especially because they do have some of my features: definitely have my nose, dimple, and likely, my eye color in the end.
Now, I just laugh and say, "I'm the first woman in history that's needed a maternity test." It still bugs sometimes, but whatevs.

Except for the eyes, facially, my LO looks just like my DH.
@Mrs. Blue: awesome response!

It doesn't bother me at all! I know he looks just like him, though some people, including my MIL, say he looks more like me. Others say he is a mix. But most say he looks exactly like my husband and it doesn't bother me.
eggplant / 11824 posts
@.twist.: yeah, exactly.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/22/health/22real.html?_r=0
"The researchers took head shots of a group of people and morphed them with photos of baby faces without the subjects' knowledge.
When they presented the subjects with the faces, the men were more likely to indicate they would adopt or spend time with the babies, male and female, who had more of their facial characteristics.
The women in the study, however, showed no preference for children with their features."
It looks like some other subsequent tests have failed, but I know with cats (where one litter can have more than one father), you really have to watch the male/father around the mixed litter because they will sometimes kill the kittens that do not look like them/have their same coloring. When my grandma was little, her job was keeping the tom cats away from the barn kitten just for this reason! :'(

It annoyed me when MIL would say it, but i didn't mind when others made that comment.

I agree with them. When he was a newborn, he looked exactly like my husband did in his baby photos.
I have one photo of them when my son is about 7 months old and he and my husband have the same expression and the same red cheeks.

@yoursilverlining: @.twist.: Ha! One of the girls I work with told me, "Don't worry about it. God makes all babies look like the father at first so he can't have any doubts." I thought that was hilarious, but perhaps there's some scientific backing.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
It didn't bother me because it was true. She was 110% all my husband for a few months. Okay, she had my eye color but..
Now she looks like me! Muhahaha ha.
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
I don't mind it so much bc it's true but I hate it when the in-laws say she looks just like my SIL who I don't have the best relationship with...I don't want my LO to turn out anything like her.
nectarine / 2771 posts
It used to irritate me, but I couldn't really disagree because sadly, for us, it's 100% true! LO is the carbon copy of DH. I'm more used to it now, and I will just jokingly roll my eyes and say "please don't remind me!"
eggplant / 11716 posts
This has never bothered me. I think it's natural that people are going to see who they know in a baby, so in-laws will usually see their genes and your side with see you.
nectarine / 2466 posts
For whatever reason, it really really really irked me when MIL or BIL commented how "you can really see all our features in B." For some reason it really annoyed me ( PP hormones I'll go with. ) However, B is 100% all me. I've never had anyone say she looks like anyone other than 100% me aside from those two. I think my PP rage towards my MIL is starting to subside so maybe it won't bother me if she says it again.
pomegranate / 3643 posts
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got annoyed when their inlaws said it!
The funny thing, for me, was he looked soooo much like me as a baby and I didn't see DH in him at all. His facial expressions are all DH's though.
This is making me baby-sick. Is it 5 yet?
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
I just have gotten so used to it. I hated when people said "no question who her daddy is." I know it's just a statement, but PP I took it as " so you were questioning whether I was faithful to my husband!?" ha
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
I agree and feel proud because I think DH is a good looking guy!
coconut / 8475 posts
I don't care. He is his son! And my husband is beautiful.
But, people rarely say it because he is just so obviously more me, so we actually get the "he's all you, mama" VERY frequently. I make sure to remind DH that LO does have a lot of him too, it is just way more subtle.
pomegranate / 3272 posts
My 3 brothers and I all look like my dad. My mom always jokes that she just dropped us off. We think it's funny when people say that she and I look alike.
Most people say that DS is the perfect blend of DH and me. However it leans towards me since he has my eyes and those are more prominent.
I also read something about how babies generally look like the father when they are first born so that the father will know that it is there baby. There's a lot more to that but I won't bore you.
