LO started showing some symptoms of a cold yesterday... A first. She's hot a runny nose, watery eyes, and all kinds of congestion in her chest... Sounds so pitiful when she coughs. She's still happy, even if just a little out of it. She did have an elevated temp when she woke up; not a fever, but not her norm. I don't want to be crazy, but at this time of year I want to be careful. Advice?

Because its Friday I would call today and get in to see the doc so you don't have to go all weekend worrying about a sick baby.

I think if she doesn't have a fever and seems happy, she's probably just got a regular cold. Can you call your pediatrician's office and talk to a nurse just so you feel better? That's what I usually do! And I know everyone says this, but trust your instincts. Even if you feel like you are being dramatic, if you feel like she should see the doctor, take her in.
Have you tried steaming up the bathroom with a hot shower, then sitting with her in there? That might help with the cough.

It sounds like a regular cold.
As an infant the list of things they told us to try included:
- Sitting in a steamy bathroom for 15 minutes (sometimes nursing while doing this helps)
- Saline spray and nose suction to help clear out congestion
- Elevate the head of the bed
- Run a cool mist vaporizer at nightI also used some Baby Vicks rub and put it on her feet and on her chest. If you dont' want to put it directly on the skin, some moms recommended putting it on the neck of the pj's
