For an out of town birthday party, how far in advance would you send out invites?

If people need to hop on a plane to attend 4 months.

Unless its a plane ride or REALLY out of town I would think atleast a month, would probably shoot for 6-8 weeks personally.

8 weeks then!
ETA: especially if the invite is the first time guests are learning if the event.

I'd say 6 weeks is good.
