My 7 week old LO has not had a poopy diaper since Tuesday night. This is the longest she has gone. She still nurses regularly, has wet diapers, and has her normal disposition. I thought I read that it isn't uncommon for newborns to have infrequent BM's but doesn't this seem like a long time? Should I call the ped? Any advice?

Our pedi GI said that it is normal for an EBF baby to go up to 2 weeks without a BM and it only becomes worrisome when there is pain during a BM or the stools are hard. LO had BM's 2+ weeks for awhile with no discomfort. When he was closer to a year they started to become painful and we had to add Miralax to expressed milk.
If you are concerned a call into the pedi's office never hurts anything but sure can put a mama at ease!

Our ped said not to worry unless she is obviously uncomfortable and her stomach is distended.

Yeah, when LO was little and EBF our ped basically said that with an EBF baby with no other problems (i.e. no other indications of illness or discomfort), we didn't need to worry unless it had been 13 days since the last poop.
That seemed crazy to me (um, how uncomfortable would you be if you didn't poop for two weeks?!?) but apparently it's totally normal. -
Our ped told us up to 2 weeks was normal, unless baby is vomiting or obviously uncomfortable. Just watch out when LO does go

Wow! The NICU worries after 48 hrs - maybe because meds etc mean not ebf? I just recently heard a week could be normal. Personally, I'd probably call after 48 hrs...maybe longer if lo was comfortable (my lo gets uncomfortable at the end of 24 hrs!)

@Lozza: LO's longest stretch was 13 days. Seemed crazy to me, but she was perfectly content.

Our LO (who is EBF) only poops once a week. As long as the consistency is normal, it's no problem (and quite nice, to be honest!).
