Charlie, Bee and I were weeding the garden today when we came across a big earthworm. Charlie freaked out! As he put it, "It's a SNAKE!!!!"
We explained to him that it was a worm and not a snake, and that worms were "good." All he had to say was, "Worms are scawy." And that was that.
This evening, I found a few dozen worms and put them into the planters where we are growing some vegetables. I haven't touched so many worms since I used to go fishing as a kid! I've been fishing a few times in my adult life, but usually we just buy our worms.
Afterward, we came inside and got Charlie a book about worms, so that he can learn more about them. Hopefully it will get him into gardening even more!
When was the last time you touched a worm?
