My LO is only 5 months, but I really want to teach her to "be gentle." She is so rough with people...she claws at their faces and pulls their glasses off! I always tell her to be gentle....when will she be able to understand it?

Starting at 9 months, the daycare start teaching "Gentle Touches". Now at around 14 months I think shes starting to understand and will stroke our face gently.

We would demonstrate what gentle means. So we would move his hand in a petting movement. This was a requirement with 2 puppies in the house. He's been "gentle" when I ask since he was at least 12 months old (it could have been earlier). Now, he still will hit, etc. so when we nurse we have to practice gentle.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: My 8 month old is super rough, too! She's constantly grabbing at faces, glasses, pulling on my lips, etc. My poor dogs are always being harassed Each time she does something rough, I try to tell/show her "gentle" or "softly" but she definitely doesn't get it yet.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: omg Cobi too!!! Today he bit my nanny LO because he thinks it's "kisses"!!! It was kinda funny but bad!! haha He has ruined my Prada glasses because he rips them off my face all the time then bends and chews them. His "kisses" is chomping on your cheek/nose/chin/insert body part within reach here, and now that he has 4 little teeth it hurts like hell!! He likes to head butt and pull hair.
He totally doesn't get gentle or nice. If I scream ow, he laughs and thinks it's funny or a game. I don't think discipline would be effective at 8 mos either...

I think LO was close to one when she started understanding gentle. Now she just does it on purpose which is even worse.

My LO is almost 1 and I feel like she is starting to understand "no"...she used to be super aggressive too and went through a biting phase and I was so worried...I didn't want her to bite another baby. She still puts everything in her mouth but when I see she has something she shouldn't bite, I say no and she stops/doesn't bite...it is super exciting that she is getting it!

13 months and mine still doesn't, despite working on it since that age at least. I know that nursing got a lot less fun for me once she started grabbing/pinching/pulling.
